Master's Funding

The 黑料不打烊 Engineering Faculty Awards program aims to recruit the best and brightest new master's students from all over the world. Selection for these awards is based on the excellence of a student鈥檚 academic and research record. This includes publications, presentations, and the student's potential to make a major impact on the quality of research both in 黑料不打烊 University's Faculty of Engineering and in the field of engineering as a whole.听

General Master's Funding听Information

  • All students stay on the funding packages that correspond to the semester and year that they began their program.
  • Graduate students are required to notify their supervisor, department, and听graduatestudies.engineering [at] mcgill.ca听of any external awards they receive.
  • Awards are not subject to taxes.
  • Awardees are responsible for paying their tuition and fees.

  • Payments are subject to the recipient听remaining a full-time student.

Faculty Awards

黑料不打烊 Engineering Undergraduate Student Master's Award (MEUSMA)

Please note: Funding numbers are effective Winter 2024

The 黑料不打烊 Engineering Undergraduate Student Masters Award (MEUSMA) provides multi-year funding to both international and domestic students who are accepted into a thesis-based master鈥檚 program within the Faculty of Engineering.听This award provides $24,000 per year for two years for domestic students. For international students, this award also includes an additional supplement to lower international tuition costs to domestic tuition costs.

Please note that students who have won a MEUSMA and an external award will have their MEUSMA reduced and they will become a Leveraged MEUSMA student. Students who receive a FRQNT ($20,000) award will receive $9,000 in MEUSMA funding to total $29,000 per year. Students who receive a NSERC award ($27,000) will receive $5,000 from their MEUSMA funding to total $32,000 per year. Leveraged awards are only available for the initial award duration noted in a student's funding offer letter.

Nominations for this award are done by supervisors听during the application process, therefore students are automatically considered for this award.听

Nomination requirements:

  • Must have graduated from a 黑料不打烊 engineering undergraduate program with a CGPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Must have participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering听(SURE) program, an internal Faculty of Engineering research traineeship with a 黑料不打烊听Engineering professor or completed one of the following research courses: BIEN 471, CHEE 494, CHEE 495, CHEE 496, CIVE 470, ECSE 498, ECSE 499, MECH 403, MIME 410, MIME 484.
  • Must be admitted听to a thesis-based master鈥檚 program within the Faculty of Engineering.

Master's Top-up Award

The Master's Top-Up award assists outstanding master's students in the Faculty of Engineering who have received a tri-council or provincial award, including听NSERC (PGSM, CGSM), CIHR, SSHRC, FQRNT, FRSQ, and FQRSC scholarships. The award provides $5,000 per year for up to two years, contingent on the duration of the external funding. This award is automatically scheduled for payments after听graduatestudies.engineering [at] mcgill.ca听has been notified of the external award. This award cannot be held by MEUSMA recipients.听

Both incoming and continuing students are eligible for this award. Please contact your department or school if you believe that you are eligible for this top-up award.
