The 黑料不打烊 Engineering Faculty Awards program aims to recruit the best and brightest new doctoral students from all over the world. Selection for these awards is based on the excellence of a student鈥檚 academic and research record. This includes publications, presentations, and the student's potential to make a major impact on the quality of research both in 黑料不打烊 University's Faculty of Engineering and in the field of engineering as a whole.听

General Doctoral Funding听Information

  • Awards are not subject to taxes.

  • Students remain on the funding plan that corresponds to the semester and year that they started their program.

  • Award payments are subject to the awardee remaining a full-time student. The definition of 鈥渇ull-time student鈥 can be found on鈥黑料不打烊's Program Requirements section of the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Calendar.

  • Please refer to your offer letter or contact the Faculty of Engineering at鈥graduatestudies.engineering [at] mcgill.ca鈥痜or further information on your funding package.

  • Students are required to notify their supervisor, department, and鈥graduatestudies.engineering [at] mcgill.ca鈥痮f any external awards they receive.

  • Non faculty award holders听starting in Fall 2025 or later听and听receive $35,000 or less per year in external funding are entitled to $5,000 per year of internal funding for their first 4 years of studies.

  • Non faculty award holders听starting in Fall 2025 or later and receive over $35,000 per year in external funding are not entitled to any additional funding.

The Faculty of Engineering offers the below entrance awards for domestic students. Students are automatically nominated for these awards by their supervisor(s) during their application. Faculty awards replace the minimum stipend of $20,000.听

黑料不打烊 Engineering Doctoral Award (MEDA)

In addition to full tuition coverage, MEDA recipients receive $24,000 per academic year for 4 years. Recipients who receive an external award have their award adjusted to be a Leveraged MEDA. Leveraged MEDA recipients who receive an external award of $25,000 (FRQNT) are entitled to $5,000 per year of internal funding.听Leveraged MEDA recipients who receive an external award of $40,000 (NSERC) are not entitled to internal funding. Leveraged awards are only available for the remaining duration of a student's faculty award, as indicated in their funding offer letter.

Vadasz Engineering Fellowship

The Vadasz Engineering Fellowship was established in 2006 by the Vadasz Family Foundation to recruit outstanding domestic students into the Faculty of Engineering's doctoral programs. With the generous support from the鈥Vadasz Scholars Program, future engineering leaders will gain the expertise and skills needed to solve problems that matter. In addition to full tuition coverage, recipients receive a minimum of $29,000 per academic year for 4 years.听

Vadasz Engineering Fellowship recipients who receive an external award will have their fellowship adjusted to be a Leveraged Vadasz Engineering Fellowship.听Leveraged Vadasz recipients who receive $25,000 per year (FRQNT) in external funding will receive $9,000 from their Vadasz Engineering Fellowship.听Leveraged Vadasz听 recipients who receive an external award of $40,000 (NSERC) are not entitled to internal funding. Leveraged awards are only available for the remaining duration of a student's faculty award, as indicated in their funding offer letter.

Indigenous and Black Engineering and Technology (IBET) Momentum Fellowship

The 黑料不打烊 Faculty of Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of the Canadian workforce by increasing the number of underrepresented populations in the engineering profession. As part of our efforts to encourage, mentor, and support tomorrow鈥檚 diverse leaders, the Faculty of Engineering is offering the Indigenous and Black Engineering and Technology (IBET) Momentum Fellowship to attract and financially support domestic applicants who identify as Indigenous or Black.听

In addition to full tuition coverage, this prestigious fellowship will provide recipients with $30,000 per year for 4 academic years. It is intended to help build and support an equitable environment that is reflective of Canada鈥檚 population and reconcile the under-representation of Indigenous and Black scholars at 黑料不打烊 University. An integral component of the IBET Momentum Fellowship will be access to mentorship and community-wide support.听

IBET Momentum Fellowship recipients who receive an external award will have their fellowship adjusted to be a Leveraged IBET Momentum Fellowship. Recipients who receive an external award of $25,000 (FRQNT) will be entitled to $10,000 of internal funding.听Leveraged recipients who receive an external award of $40,000 (NSERC) are not entitled to internal funding. Leveraged awards are only available for the remaining duration of a student's faculty award, as indicated in their funding offer letter.

Application听

To be eligible for this award applicants must:听

  • Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada who self-identifies as听Black or Indigenous.听For the purpose听of this fellowship, an Indigenous person is a person who self-identifies as First Nations (Status/Non-Status), M茅tis, or Inuit as defined in the Canadian Constitution Act 1982.

  • Meet the minimum program admission requirements.听Regular PhD candidates will be evaluated based on combined undergraduate and master's CGPA. Direct Entry PhD candidates may be evaluated based on their undergraduate CGPA.

  • Indicate to their PhD supervisor that they are eligible for the IBET Momentum Fellowship.

黑料不打烊 Engineering International Tuition Award (MEITA)

In addition to full tuition coverage, students on this award plan will continue to receive the supervisor stipend of $19,500 per year for the remaining duration of their faculty award,听as indicated in their funding offer letter.听

MEITA recipients who receive an external award will have their MEITA adjusted to be a Leveraged MEITA. Recipients who receive an external award of $25,000 (FRQNT) will be entitled to $5,000 per year of internal funding for the remaining duration of their MEITA, as indicated in their funding offer letter.

Vadasz Engineering Fellowship

MEDA International (PhD2) recipients who receive an external award will have their faculty award adjusted to be a Leveraged MEDA International (PhD2). Recipients who receive an external award of $25,000 (FRQNT) will be entitled to $5,000 per year of internal funding for the remainder duration of their award,听as indicated in their funding offer letter.

In addition to full tuition coverage, MEDA International (PhD1) recipients receive $24,000 per academic year for the remainder of their award period, as indicated in their funding offer letter.

MEDA International (PhD1) recipients who receive an external award will have their faculty award adjusted to be a Leveraged MEDA International (PhD1). Recipients who receive an external award of $25,000 (FRQNT) will be entitled to $5,000 per year of internal funding for the remainder duration of their award, as indicated in their funding offer letter.
