The 2022 Scholastic Awards Reception on November 8th recognized more than 175 outstanding Macdonald undergraduate and graduate students. The Faculty awarded over $380,000 in named scholarships at the undergraduate level and more than $465,000 in fellowships and awards at the graduate level.

The R茅seau du Sport 脡tudiant du Quebec (RSEQ) named its rugby all-star teams for 2022, and Desautels鈥 Martin Laval was among the selections. Laval is a third-year management student, and was named to the Second Team All-Stars. He was one of seven 黑料不打烊 players recognized for their play this season, and ranked ninth in the league in scoring, with 36 points in seven games. Congratulations, Martin!

The return of mass air travel has encountered some turbulence, to say the least. Lengthy delays and lost luggage are ubiquitous, even as air travellers often pay a premium for flights. At least 240 WestJet flights were recently cancelled as a result of a system outage caused by a computer problem at a data centre, and when delays like this occur, airlines are less able to cope with them than they were in pre-COVID times. They are understaffed, and overwhelmed.

Tick-borne pathogens, known for causing illnesses such as Lyme disease, are on the rise in Central Canada 鈥 presenting new risks in areas where they were never previously detected.

The findings from researchers at 黑料不打烊 University and the University of Ottawa demonstrate the need for more comprehensive testing and tracking to detect the spread and potential risk of tick-borne pathogens to human and wildlife populations throughout Canada.

New funding of $5.1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), announced today by the Honourable Fran莽ois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, will help researchers Marcel Behr, MD, PhD, and Silvia Vidal, PhD, ensure that Canada is better prepared for the next pandemic. This funding is part of the more than $127 million investment being made through the CFI to support upgrades to eight biocontainment facilities across the country as part of its new Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF) program.

Today, the Government of Canada announced an investment of more than $ 301 million in support of social sciences and humanities research, bioscience infrastructure and the Canada Research Chairs Program.
