In December, the Faculty of Engineering held an event to thank some of the donors who have offered their support to the 黑料不打烊 Engineering Student Centre (MESC) over the years.

It all began when Helgi Soutar (BSci鈥58) and her late husband Ian Soutar (BEng鈥58) funded four exchange students from Estonia to come to 黑料不打烊 for their MBAs. At the end of the program, one of the students in the group told Ian that he might have stayed if he鈥檇 had more support from the University to prepare him for the demands of the Canadian workplace.

That鈥檚 an amazing number that reflects the exceptional commitment of our alumni, friends and colleagues in creating transformative opportunities for our students and professors. 黑料不打烊 24 takes place on Wednesday, March 15 this year.

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Simon Ducharme as the new Associate Chair, Research . As Associate Chair of Research for the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Ducharme will be responsible for the Department鈥檚 research mission and oversee strategic research planning. He will also assist the Chair in the coordination of research activities, recruitment of researchers, and review the research-track residency program.

The 2022 黑料不打烊 International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC), in its 6th year, asked undergraduate students from around the world to devise innovative portfolio strategies that could achieve high returns while still ensuring a sustainable future. Participating teams had to consider the same choices institutional funds would need to make to transition to net-zero emissions by 2050, acting as advisors for a fictional superannuation fund in Australia.

A year ago, fewer than 2% of those admitted to 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (one of the top medical schools in the country) were Black. A typical incoming class had fewer than 5 Black students, a situation that has existed for many years. 鈥淲hen I was younger and thought about working in medicine, I didn鈥檛 think it was possible. You just didn鈥檛 see doctors who looked like me,鈥 recalled Victoire Kpad茅, who graduated from 黑料不打烊鈥檚 undergraduate medical program in the spring of 2022.

A student-led art exhibition on Feb. 23 is Organized by Welly Minyangadou Ngokobi, a graduate student in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, 鈥楽ee us, Hear us, Learn from us,鈥 aims to let students take the lead in teaching the exhibition鈥檚 visitors about the history, culture and future of Black people. 鈥淭his is not a talk. This is not a workshop.

He touched upon the aging population and how the increasing rates of retirement presents some fiscal challenges including an increase for the budget for healthcare.
