Students launch new hub to advocate for global food security

Open to students in any field of study, the aim of the Nexus is to raise awareness about the topic of food security, while also giving its members a place to come together and learn from one another. As its name suggests, the Nexus will work closely with the Margaret A. Gilliam Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at 黑料不打烊 to organize events, educational campaigns, and other activities that support the institute鈥檚 work.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lorie Kloda as Vice-Dean of 黑料不打烊 University Library, for a five-year term, effective April 17, 2023. Dr. Kloda joins the senior management team led by Trenholme Dean of Libraries Guylaine Beaudry. Kloda will provide leadership for initiatives supporting the Library鈥檚 strategic directions and will oversee a portfolio of units including finance/planning & resources, facilities, communications, assessment, and Indigenous Initiatives.

Fresh produce contaminated with toxic BPA-like chemicals found in food labels, study finds

Steps were taken in Canada to reduce the use of Bisphenol A (BPA), a toxic chemical linked to prostate and breast cancer, commonly found in plastics, the lining of food cans, water bottles, and paper receipts. But in many cases, it has been replaced with similar hormone disrupting chemicals, like Bisphenol S (BPS).

When natural habitats are cleared to make way for cities, roads and agriculture, this often leaves behind 鈥渋slands鈥� of fragmented habitat that can place species at risk of extinction. Species are at risk when they find it hard to move among habitat patches to find resources and reproduce.
