Currently under review. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ will not be accepted for the 2011-2012 academic year. The Certificate in Northern Social Work Practice offered by the School of Continuing Studies on behalf of the School of Social Work is available only in the North and is for Inuit community workers employed by Nouveau Québec. The courses reflect the sociocultural characteristics of northern society as well as the social service needs of Inuit communities. Particular attention is directed to the complex role of the social worker in various relationships to the community. Courses will reflect the following themes: identification and analysis of social problems; welfare policy and legislation methods of social work practice with individuals, groups, and organizations and the process of community organizing. All the courses are taught in the North by the staff of the School of Social Work.Required Courses (21 credits)

Overview
Social Work : An introduction to health and health institutions in the context of service delivery. Major themes will include: multidisciplinary teamwork in the hospital; crisis intervention; legal ethical issues; and emerging issues for social workers in health.

Overview
Social Work : Theory and practice of work with individuals and families under stress. Topics include: categories of hazardous events; affective, behavioural and role disorganization; phases in the crisis cycle; techniques of crisis intervention and abatement.

Social Work : Social work practice with women based on recent advances in understanding women's relationships to the structures and institutions of society. Overview
Elementary Education : Structure and morphology of Inuktitut for teachers working in that language. Use of orthography, both qaliujaaqpait (Roman script) and qaniujaaqpait (syllabics) as established by the Inuit Cultural Association.
