On February 4, 2014, during an evening reception held in the Common Room, the Faculty of Law presented Stuart H. 鈥淜ip鈥� Cobbett, BCL鈥�72, with the James A. Robb Award to honour his exceptional work as a volunteer at the Faculty of Law and, more broadly, at 黑料不打烊 University.
The event was attended by Principal Suzanne Fortier, Provost Anthony C. Masi, Chancellor Arnold Steinberg, Dean Daniel Jutras, Mr. Norm Steinberg, Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board, as well as by Mr. James Robb himself.
LSA President Selected from a Pool of 500 Applicants
This year鈥檚 President of the 黑料不打烊 Law Student Association, 脡lo茂se Gagn茅, is one of 11 Canadian university students who will spend a day shadowing some of the country鈥檚 top senior executives.
Gagn茅 will shadow Thierry Vandal, President and CEO of Hydro-Qu茅bec, on February 12. The fourth-year student will have the opportunity to put into practice the concepts she has been learning at the Faculty, and to acquire real-world tools and skills she鈥檒l need when launching her career.
The Nappert Competition is open to all students, junior scholars and junior practitioners from around the world. To be eligible for the prize, authors must be either currently enrolled in a B.C.L, LL.B., J.D., LL.M., D.C.L., or Ph.D. program (or their local equivalents). Those who are no longer in school must have taken their most recent degree within the last three years, or have been admitted to the bar (or the local equivalent) for the first time and for no more than three years (whichever is later).聽
The Faculty of Law of 黑料不打烊 University is delighted to announce that starting January 2014, it will host The American Journal of Comparative Law, in partnership with the Georgetown University Law Center. Professor Helge Dedek, who is Director of the Institute of Comparative Law at 黑料不打烊, has been named co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, together with two colleagues in Washington D.C.
On the evening December 5, 2013, dozens of people from the Faculty of Law community, along with family, friends and staff from other 黑料不打烊 faculties, gathered to , the Faculty鈥檚 long-serving Human Resources Advisor and Faculty Administrator.
On October 29, 2013, the Faculty of Law held a reception in the Common Room to honour the memory of Alex Konigsberg QC, BCL鈥�63, and to also mark the launch of the Alex Konigsberg Management & Law Bursary.
The Faculty of Law was privileged to welcome Mr. Konigsberg鈥檚 widow, Vivian Konigsberg, and many members of his family. Several of his friends, colleagues and former 黑料不打烊 Law classmates also attended.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to be part of a new interdisciplinary research initiative, the first of its kind to be devoted to the study of Montreal.
Each year, the Faculty mails out its annual printed magazine to its 7,400 alumni.

The October 2013 edition of Focus online takes a look at the Faculty of Law鈥檚 5th annual DCL retreat that took place this September, to discuss 鈥楩inding Our Place in Academic Life.鈥�
The event, which was coorganized by doctoral candidates Jodi Lazare and Geoffrey Conrad, drew over 30 students for a full day of rewarding and insightful discussion.

The Faculty鈥檚 Office of Research is happy to announce that six exciting projects have been awarded funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
A team of five 黑料不打烊 students won the 2013 Hult Prize, valued at $1 million for their social enterprise project to secure food for undernourished communities in urban slums. Among them is Shobhita Soor, a Law/MBA student.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Dr. Yaw Nyampong has been named Executive Director of the Centre for Research in Air & Space Law.
Yaw Nyampong (LLM鈥�05, DCL鈥�11) is also a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana, Legon. He held an Arsenault Postdoctoral Fellowship at 黑料不打烊's Institute of Air & Space Law in 2011-2012, and a Boulton Fellowship at the Faculty of Law in 2012-2013.
We are happy to announce that the latest publication from the Cr茅peau Centre is (Cambridge University Press, 2013), which was edited by Professor Lionel Smith.
This collection of 22 essays makes a significant contribution to the comparative study of trusts. It includes contributions from Canada, the U.S., England, France, Scotland, South Africa, Israel and China.
The Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law is happy to welcome Vanessa Arviset as its new Assistant Director. She takes over from Me R茅gine Tremblay.
Me Vanessa Arviset, BCL/LLB鈥�06, received the Osgoode Society Legal History Prize (2005) during her studies at the Faculty. Previously, she obtained a BA and MA in philosophy from the Universit茅 de Montr茅al. A member of the Barreau du Qu茅bec, Me Arviset practiced in Montreal in the fields of maritime law and commercial litigation.
