Thanks to a generous donation from the Li Ka Shing Foundation (Canada) to 黑料不打烊 University, ten students from 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Faculty of Law and ten students in Shantou University鈥檚 Law School (Guangdong Province, China), will be doing a summer law program together from May 19 to 30. The program, which alternates between Montreal and Shantou, will take place in China this year.

We are happy to announce that Emilie Conway, BCL/LLB鈥13, has been selected by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to participate in the Court鈥檚 2014-2015 Judicial Assistants Programme.

Judicial Assistants are chosen to work directly with one judge, helping him or her in the preparation for hearings and the drafting of judgments.

Ms Conway was selected to work directly with the President of the Court, Judge Peter Tomka. She will begin work in September 2014.

The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that one of its students received a Scarlet Key Award during a pining ceremony held at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Faculty Club on March 26, 2014.

脡lo茂se Gagn茅, who served as the LSA鈥檚 president in 2013-2014 and was a member of the 2013 editorial board of the 黑料不打烊 Law Journal, received her Scarlet Key pin from Principal Suzanne Fortier, in recognition of her efforts to help support 黑料不打烊 and the broader community.

Michelle Lahey (1L) is one of three Canadian students selected for a Jaimie Anderson internship in Ottawa this summer. Starting in May, Michelle will be working in the office of MP John Williamson (New Brunswick Southwest).

As Michelle tells it, 鈥淢y passion is the Canadian political process, and I hope to work on the Hill in some capacity later in my career 鈥 I am absolutely delighted to be given this once in a lifetime opportunity!鈥

Mediation at 黑料不打烊 (), a community mediation initiative run by law students, recently received a generous donation of $2,500 to support its activities. The gift was made by Me Eric Cadl, Me Douglas Mitchell (BCL鈥88, LLB鈥88), Me Odette Jobin-Laberge, the Hon. Louise Otis, and Me Sylvain Lussier, five Montreal practitioners who are among the authors of the book Recours et proc茅dures en appel, which received the Walter Owen Prize.

The Faculty of Law is proud to announce that Professor Robert Leckey, a William Dawson Scholar in the Faculty of Law and a member of the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, has been elected to the Global Young Academy.

Based in Berlin, the prestigious Academy consists of more than 155 young, independent researchers from around the world, who come together to address topics of global importance during a four-year term.

The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that on January 29, 2014, adjunct professor Jeffrey Edwards (BCL鈥86, LLB鈥86) was appointed to the Civil Division of the Court of Quebec in Montreal.

Justice Edwards, who was admitted to the Bar in 1987, has mostly practiced civil and commercial litigation. He is also an accredited arbitrator and mediator, and as such, he specializes in the resolution of construction and product quality claims.
