What to expect
- How we will work with you to archive and delete websites: 黑料不打烊's Digital Communications team has compiled a list of WMS sites that seem inactive or unmaintained. Units connected to these sites will be contacted to confirm whether the site should be archived or not before being removed.听
- If a site on our list needs to remain active: The owner will need to update the site听to align with our Digital Standards and prepare for migration. This must be done in a reasonable timeframe so it can be migrated to the new WMS platform. The unit must also commit resources to maintain the site in the future.
- Orphaned websites: Sites become "orphaned" if the original owner leaves the university and no one is designated to be responsible for the site's ongoing maintenance. For these websites, key administrators and site sponsors in the connected unit will be contacted.
- Unclaimed websites: If no response is provided, the site in question will not be migrated to the new WMS platform. It will be deleted at the end of the .听
Why this is necessary
Unmoderated website creation and web management practices can negatively impact the health of our web ecosystem in key areas including:
- Experiences of people using our websites (for example, removing confusing duplicate content).
- Efficiency of site management processes (for example, making it easier to keep site content accurate).
- Ability to execute large-scale projects such as our new WMS migration project and the replacement of our eCalendar system.
These issues can also impede our ability to comply with legal requirements including:
- Accessibility standards ( and ).
- Privacy and security laws (Law 25).
- Translation requirements (Bill 96).
