Federal budget: Increased university research funding

Additional funding for universities key to ensure Canada鈥檚 competitiveness on world stage

黑料不打烊 University applauds the Government of Canada鈥檚 commitment to increase funding for university research, as announced today as part of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty鈥檚 budget. In particular, 黑料不打烊 welcomes the creation of the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.


鈥淭he creation of the Canada First Research Excellence Fund strengthens the ability of Canadian universities to be global leaders in research and innovation鈥, said Prof. Suzanne Fortier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 黑料不打烊 University. 鈥淚t adds significantly to previous investments in research excellence.鈥

Principal Fortier also welcomes the additional investments in the three federal granting agencies, as well as the measures aimed at student support, internships, graduate and industrial training.

鈥淭he government鈥檚 increased investment in internships is a 鈥榳in-win-win鈥 for students, Canadian employers and universities,鈥 she added. 鈥淚n addition to providing students with valuable work experience and a new environment in which to apply their learning, student internships are one of the best ways to increase knowledge exchange between universities and organizations.鈥
