The Neuro鈥檚 ICU Nursing Team are the winners of the 2019 Evelyn Malowany Award for Clinical Practice. Despite a constant influx and high turnover of patients, the nursing team delivers exemplary individualized, family-centered care and goes above and beyond to meet the needs of patients and families in crisis.
The Neuro ICU nursing team cares for patients experiencing significant neurological illness, a post anesthesia care unit where the team recovers post-op neurosurgical patients, and the receiving area, an emergency department where the team admits stroke patients and receives patients for consultations with the neurology and neurosurgery services. Supporting patients who are experiencing uncertainty in prognosis, caring for patients at the end of life, and advocating for families through the process of organ donation are among the many challenging situations that the Neuro ICU nursing team engages in on a daily basis.
