The specimen shows the stomach with a piece of liver (L, side view (B)) attached behind. Several shallow ulcers are evident inferiorly (arrows, (A)). A deep focus of puckered mucosa (P) is said to relate to a large ulcer, which is difficult to appreciate in the specimen. However, the base of this appears to be adherent to the liver (side view (B)), suggesting a chronic inflammatory process such as might be seen with a chronic gastric ulcer.

The case was documented by Osler in his 1877 鈥� 1879 autopsy logbook (Rodin Case CCXLVII) 
rodin_oslerian_pathology_228.pdf.
It was also reported briefly in the Montreal General Hospital Reports 1880 I: 305. The patient had suffered "for years from dyspepsia", possibly related to the ulceration. He appears to have died of pulmonary tuberculosis.
