Are you an international student who is filing their first income tax return? Do you wonder what needs to be reported during your first year's tax return? Then this webinar is for you. We will go over the Canadian tax system reviewing: how to determine your residence status, the different tax brackets, and how different income gets taxed. We will review key tax slips (see list below) and show you how to make sense of them through live examples. Finally, we will cover various tax credits and deductions available to you and highlight different international tax treaties that may impact your Canadian taxes based on your country of origin.听

Learning Outcomes:听

    • Learn how to determine your residence status for tax purposes.听
    • Learn about the different Canadian tax brackets, what counts as taxable income, and how different types of income get taxed.听
    • Develop a basic understanding of the information contained on key tax slips (T4, T4A, T5, T2202, RL-1, RL-3, RL-8, RL-19, RL-24, and RL-31).听
    • Familiarize yourself with common tax deductions and credits available to you.

NOTE: This webinar is split into two consecutive 75-minute sessions with a built-in 15-minute break.
