Mitacs Globalink

Mitacs builds partnerships between academia, industry, and the world 鈥� to create a more innovative Canada.听Take your听graduate or postdoctoral听research abroad with Mitacs Globalink. Globalink offers travel funding between Canada and several international partners.

Value & Duration

  • The award value is $6,000
  • Travel duration must be of 12-24 weeks听

Deadlines

Note 2: Deadlines falling on a weekend or holiday are moved to the following business day.

Students eligible to apply through the Thematic call or the Quantum special offer, should apply to those calls instead of this one. See the bottom of this page for more information.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  1. For Master鈥檚, PhD, Postdocs and Senior Undergraduates
  2. For travel to one of the eligible countries (priority is given to students collaborating with a Mitacs partner institution)
  3. Travel duration must be of 12-24 weeks
  4. For collaboration with an institution not partnered with Mitacs, the 黑料不打烊 supervisor must commit to a contribution of 2,000 CAD
  5. Trainees cannot travel to a country where they hold citizenship unless they also hold Canadian citizenship or are Canadian Permanent Residents.

How to Apply

Countries & Partners

The program supports travel and research between Canadian universities and universities and institutions in certain countries. Please visit the for the list of countries and partners.

Supervisor and Contribution Requirements

  • The supervisor must be a recognized faculty member at their institutions
  • The supervisor must be eligible to host graduate students
  • The 黑料不打烊 supervisor must commit to a contribution of 2,000 CAD for collaboration with an institution not partnered with Mitacs
    1. The contribution cannot come from the host supervisor (the supervisor external to 黑料不打烊), the student, or out-of-pocket
    2. The contribution cannot come from Tri-Agency Funds or FRQ; department contributions or start-up funds are acceptable
    3. The deadline to transfer the funds are as follows:
      • Deadline to transfer funds: First Call - May 1st . Second Call : September 15th, 2023. Third Call: January 5th.

After Pre-selection听

Pre-selected students will not be able to submit the full application to Mitacs until the supervisor's contribution is received (if applicable). Pre-selected candidates receive Mitacs application package and instructions to complete and submit their application听by the deadline.听Please note that you must be approved by Mitacs to receive the award. GPS pre-selection is not the听final approval.

Please note the following regarding the OSR checklist in the application package:听

  • The supervisor is responsible for completing and obtaining signatures on the OSR checklist
  • The application will be reviewed only after听signatures from the Dean and ADR are provided on the OSR checklist

Quantum Special Offer

Are you interested in applying to GRA for a quantum project? You may be eligible for enhanced funding!

  • $6,000 award to carry out a research project over 12 to 24 weeks
  • $12,000 award to carry out a research project over 24 to 48 weeks

If a Mitacs is involved in the project:

  • $9,000 award to carry out a research project over 12 to 24 weeks
  • $15,000 award to carry out a research project over 24 to 48 weeks

  • France: French Embassy in Canada
  • France: Universit茅 de Grenobles Alpes (UGA)
  • France: Universit茅 de Lorraine

  • Taiwan: National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) 鈥� NARLabs

In all cases听no co-funding is required of the Canadian university.听

The themes for this year鈥檚 thematic call are:

  1. Digital and Emerging technology (e.g. AI, Advanced Computing, Cybersecurity, Semiconductors)
  1. Sustainability and Net Zero (e.g. Electric Vehicles, Critical Minerals, Hydrogen, Energy Transition, Oceans, Clean Technology)
  1. Life Sciences (e.g. Biomanufacturing, Bioeconomy, Agri-Food, Agri-Tech, Health Sciences)
  1. Humanities and Social Innovation (open category)

Mitacs participating international partners have their own eligibility requirements, you can check each one at the link above.

The deadline to apply is November 20, 2024.
