GEOG 425: Southeast Asia Urban Field Studies (3 credits)
This course allows students to experience some of the urban changes taking place in Southeast Asian cities, a dynamic region, while providing the opportunity to connect recent scholarship with field observations. We will explore various current themes in urban studies and urban geography including globalization, the transnational circulation of urban policies, interpretations of culture and heritage / new built heritage, gentrification, migrant labour, public housing, creative clusters, and new cities as national economic strategies.
When and where?听听May 8th to May 21st 2025, in Singapore and Malaysia.听
How to apply:听Interested students must have completed or be enrolled in the pre-requisites for the class听and follow the application procedure as laid out below.
Application materials must be printed and slid under Prof Moser's office door (Burnside hall, room 413) as a package by the January 31st deadline.
Application package must include:
- a copy of your CV
- a one paragraph statement about why you want to take this course
- a copy of your unofficial transcript printed from Minerva

Note: Additional Department fee of听$1750.51听for 2025 covers the cost of a 2 week urban field studies course in Singapore and Malaysia, including accommodation, ground transportation and entrance fees. Students are responsible for arranging their own airfares to Singapore.
Prerequisites: GEOG 217 and GEOG 325.
