Midway through her doctoral thesis research at 黑料不打烊, Anita Nowak (BCom鈥97, PhD鈥11) discovered a deep passion for supporting social and environmental innovators. With the encouragement of former faculty member Dr. Michael Hoechsmann, she zeroed in on empathy as the driving force for entrepreneurial success and developed a 鈥淧edagogy of Empathic听Action.鈥 This early research continues to inform her work as a global expert in empathy and adjunct lecturer at Desautels.

Mathieu Darche (BCom鈥00) turned down an NCAA Division 1 hockey scholarship to study business management at 黑料不打烊, but he never strayed far from the ice. As the current Director of Hockey Operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Darche is grateful to Desautels for equipping him with the tools he needed to turn his dual passion for hockey and business into a successful career.

Susan Riddell-Fitzpatrick (BCom鈥61) was one of only three women to graduate from 黑料不打烊 with a Commerce degree in 1961. She went on to become Chair of the Montreal Neurological Hospital Board from 1993 to 1995. Looking back, Riddell-Fitzpatrick is grateful for the space 黑料不打烊 has given her and her family members to make history and pursue their dreams.

A new scholarship has been launched in honour of Devon Haye (BCom鈥20), who passed away after a long and courageous battle with lymphatic cancer.

Jaquelynn Mateluna (MBA'21) is leveraging her background in biology, plant sciences, and business to help her clients develop environmentally, financially, and socially sustainable production practices in the food, agriculture and energy industries. As she builds her career as a strategy consultant at EY Parthenon, she expresses gratitude for the ongoing support she receives from her professors and former classmates at the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Soon after the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010, Laura Parny Germain (BEng鈥15, MBA鈥21) moved from Port-au-Prince to Montreal with a deep resolve to use her education for the benefit of others. With engineering and MBA degrees from 黑料不打烊 under her belt, she looks forward to working toward socially and environmentally sustainable solutions to the challenges her hometown faces.

Guy Vidal (BA鈥87, MBA鈥92) is the co-founder of Vidal Design Collaborative, an interior and landscape design company dedicated to bringing style and hospitality to Eastside Los Angeles. He credits his time at Desautels with teaching him the language of business and preparing him to take risks as an entrepreneur.

We are pleased to announce that three Desautels alumni have been selected to receive 2021 黑料不打烊 Alumni Association (MAA) Awards. This year鈥檚 recipients will be honoured at a on Thursday, September 30 at 5:30 PM (EDT).

KPI Digital entrepreneur Benny Cohen (BCom鈥82) shares business acumen and scholarship support with students in 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) and Master of Management in Retail (MMR) programs.

Thanks to the generosity of Don Lewtas (BCom鈥75), students will soon benefit from the Lewtas Experiential Learning Office.
In collaboration with Desautels Career Management, the new Office will help students connect with companies and campus departments that can provide on-the-job experience in their respective fields of study.
It will also serve as a main point of contact between faculty instructors and business leaders who are looking to recruit student talent.

Professor Richard G. Donovan passed suddenly on August 3, 2019, but the legacy he left behind continues to this day. Through generous donor support, the $50,000 Richard G. Donovan Prize in Case Excellence is awarded to graduating students who have excelled in case competitions in their time at 黑料不打烊. Now, Desautels is raising funds to endow the prize in order to support students for generations to come.

Inspired by the academic talent he sees in his students, Professor Gregory Vit is committed to eliminating any financial barriers that might stand in the way of pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree. With the support of generous alumni and friends of 黑料不打烊, he has launched two endowed funds dedicated to BCom students: The Professor Gregory Vit Entrance and In-Course Bursaries.
黑料不打烊 alumnus Marc-Andr茅 Isabelle (Dip.FMT, BEng. Bioresource) is a course lecturer in the Farm Management & Technology program. The Isabelle farm in Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, has evolved and expanded throughout the years, from dairy to strawberries to produce, and most recently launching FestiFleurs, a popular pick-your-own bouquet event.

After a career-ending injury left Gabriel Gervais, MBA鈥09, unable to continue playing professional soccer, his 黑料不打烊 MBA landed him a permanent role at Deloitte. Since 2009, he has leveraged his expertise to help companies improve their supply chain management and manufacturing operations. The former defender, who had his sights set on playing in the World Cup, still makes time to follow the sport and maintain friendships with former teammates.

Joanne Liu (MDCM鈥91, IMHL鈥14, DSc鈥16) brings decades of experience as a pediatric emergency room physician and former international president of Doctors Without Borders to 黑料不打烊鈥檚 School of Population and Global Health. In her new role as a professor, she will focus on pandemic and health emergencies. Liu, who currently sits on the Independent Panel of Pandemic Preparedness and Response, was named one of the 100 most influential people on the planet by Time magazine in 2015.
