Claudia Navarro (MBA鈥03) is Coca-Cola鈥檚 Chief of Marketing for Latin America, but her climb through the company鈥檚 ranks started out at their Toronto office. 鈥淲e need to be part of the global conversation, but also be relevant locally,鈥 Navarro told Forbes Espanol. One example is the brand鈥檚 famous Christmas branding. The Atlanta-headquartered soda company famously copyrighted the stereotypically ruddy and white-bearded Santa Claus, but in Latin America, that image is 鈥榯ropicalized鈥 to better reflect local realities.

For nearly 20 years, Elliot Lifson, C.M., O.Q., has played an important role in uplifting the 黑料不打烊 Desautels community as a professor of practice and a member of both the Bensadoun School of Retail Management Advisory Board and the Desautels International Advisory and Advancement Board (DIAAB).

Lesly Yao (BCom鈥18) isn鈥檛 your stereotypical small-town Quebec firefighter. Born in Tahiti, the Bachelor of Commerce grad was growing disillusioned with her work at a marketing firm when a Canadian Forces recruitment advertisement caught her eye鈥攁nd her imagination. But because Yao was not a citizen at the time and a job with the Forces was not in the cards. 鈥淚鈥檇 always had it in the back of my mind to become a firefighter,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 watched shows about firefighting, and it appealed to me, but it also seemed unattainable.
In Canada, ice time is at a premium and the nearest rink might not be able to accommodate your beer league team. But in large cities, there鈥檚 often ice available somewhere, and Jonathan Azouri (BCom鈥16) spotted an opportunity. The co-founder and CEO of CatchCorner by Sports Illustrated, an app that allows users to book sports facilities, launched it in Toronto in 2019 and is now making it available in markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston.
As part of this Spring鈥檚 Convocation celebrations, 黑料不打烊 University will award honorary degrees 鈥 the highest order it can bestow 鈥 to 17 exceptional individuals who have made considerable contributions to society. Serge Godin, O.C., O.Q., Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.), founder of CGI and a prominent figure in the Canadian technology industry, will be awarded an honorary degree from 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Desautels Faculty of Management on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

In 2021, thanks to the generosity of alumnus Don Lewtas, we saw the launch of the Lewtas Office of Experiential Learning. Since the office鈥檚 inception, the team at the Lewtas Office,听led by Leigh Korey, PhD, has been hard at work creating powerful hands-on learning opportunities that play a vital role in the student journey.

On Friday, February 3, the Desautels Faculty of Management hosted the 43rd edition of the Desautels Management Achievement Awards, a student-run initiative which brings the global Desautels community together to celebrate the achievements of industry leaders who have demonstrated a career of great achievement and commitment of responsible business.

Marcel Desautels, LLD鈥07 (CM, O Ont, OM) generously donated both his resources and his time to furthering business education at 黑料不打烊. The business leader and philanthropist passed away on January 31 at the age of 88. Desautels invested over $38 million in students, programs, research and facilities at the Desautels Faculty of Management. 鈥淢arcel was deeply passionate about inspiring others to give and get involved,鈥 says Dean Yolande Chan. 鈥淎nd because he believed in us, so many others did too.
