Claudia Navarro (MBA鈥�03) is Coca-Cola鈥檚 Chief of Marketing for Latin America, but her climb through the company鈥檚 ranks started out at their Toronto office. 鈥淲e need to be part of the global conversation, but also be relevant locally,鈥� Navarro told Forbes Espanol. One example is the brand鈥檚 famous Christmas branding. The Atlanta-headquartered soda company famously copyrighted the stereotypically ruddy and white-bearded Santa Claus, but in Latin America, that image is 鈥榯ropicalized鈥� to better reflect local realities.

Lesly Yao (BCom鈥�18) isn鈥檛 your stereotypical small-town Quebec firefighter. Born in Tahiti, the Bachelor of Commerce grad was growing disillusioned with her work at a marketing firm when a Canadian Forces recruitment advertisement caught her eye鈥攁nd her imagination. But because Yao was not a citizen at the time and a job with the Forces was not in the cards. 鈥淚鈥檇 always had it in the back of my mind to become a firefighter,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 watched shows about firefighting, and it appealed to me, but it also seemed unattainable.

But in large cities, there鈥檚 often ice available somewhere, and Jonathan Azouri (BCom鈥�16) spotted an opportunity. The co-founder and CEO of CatchCorner by Sports Illustrated, an app that allows users to book sports facilities, launched it in Toronto in 2019 and is now making it available in markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston.

Marcel Desautels, LLD鈥�07 (CM, O Ont, OM) generously donated both his resources and his time to furthering business education at 黑料不打烊. The business leader and philanthropist passed away on January 31 at the age of 88. Desautels invested over $38 million in students, programs, research and facilities at the Desautels Faculty of Management. 鈥淢arcel was deeply passionate about inspiring others to give and get involved,鈥� says Dean Yolande Chan. 鈥淎nd because he believed in us, so many others did too.

The Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF) is at the beginning stages of work to support dramatically increasing the numbers of First Nations, Inuit, and M茅tis teachers by 10,000 and to promote the systemic changes necessary in leading to more sustainable Indigenous teacher employment opportunities in all areas of the country. Made possible through generous philanthropic support by the Mastercard Foundation, the RHF will be investing in excess of $45 million towards innovative community-driven approaches to achieving these objectives.
