黑料不打烊's Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor issued this statement reflecting on the outbreak of war in the Middle East and its effect on our 黑料不打烊 community:

Dear members of the 黑料不打烊 community,

I have watched with horror the immense suffering and loss of human life that Hamas caused through its heinous terrorist attack on Israel. This act, and the continuing violence in Israel and Gaza, have created profound distress within 黑料不打烊. I have personally witnessed the grief and anxiety that so many members of our community are currently experiencing.

Waitz is now available in the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering.

During the busiest times of the year we regularly hear from students regarding how challenging it can be to find a place to study in library spaces. In order to help address this concern, 黑料不打烊 Library is working with to display space use information online that shows how busy the McLennan-Redpath Complex and Schulich Library are in real-time, by floor, so that students can save time.

Former 黑料不打烊 student聽Russell T. Shinohara has been named the recipient of the 2023 Mortimer Spiegelman Award for "his聽important聽contributions to biostatistics and imaging, as well as his proven track record of leadership and mentorship."聽

Dr.聽Shinohara was an undergraduate and master's student in the 黑料不打烊 Department of Mathematics and Statistics and completed his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. He is now a Professor of Biostatistics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

October 12, 2023 | On October 10, Daniel A. Bell visited the Max Bell School of Public Policy to give an insightful discussion on his book, The Dean of Shandong. Professor Bell has a distinguished career as a political theorist who has attempted to understand and to convey to English-speaking audiences, the role that Confucianism has had in explaining many developments in Chinese society and politics.聽This visit was presented by the Katharine A. Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy.聽

The apple is constantly being reinvented, changing with the times and cultures. The Malus domestica species comes in some 7,500 varieties.

"Today, people want crisp, sweet apples. Quebec used to import a lot of Granny Smiths; they're now much less popular because they're very acidic," explains David Wees, a 黑料不打烊 Plant Science lecturer and Associate Director of the university's Farm Management and Technology Program.

Artificial intelligence, automation and robotics are reshaping many parts of the economy, and experts say the meat-processing sector could benefit from improved technology to overcome labour shortages, improve food safety and remain competitive against alternatives like plant-based proteins.

Change has been slow, but companies are making strides, such as using robotics to transport heavy animal carcasses within a facility, to stack and move boxes for delivery聽and to optimize transportation loads to reduce the amount of trucking.聽

The way that we shop is changing, and for small- and medium-sized enterprises, it can be challenging to keep up with the pace of innovation. But the Bensadoun School of Retail Management (BSRM) is helping them do it. Since spring 2023, it has been hosting regional networking events that meet Quebec businesspeople where they live and work. Regional roadshows aim to help SMEs become omni-channel retailers, and consist of workshops that showcase the innovative research happening at BSRM.

During a sabbatical year, Prof. Juan Camilo Serpa visited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Costa Rica, and found that while they were doing a lot of great work to help animals, they had little access to advanced technologies like data analytics and artificial intelligence. This inspired Serpa to re-focus his research toward the country鈥檚 NGOs, so he could help them implement new technologies that maximize the impact of their efforts.
