The project consists of transforming existing classrooms into two computer teaching labs with new audiovisual equipment and a reconfiguration. The scope includes the demolition of the back walls to include storage areas as part of the new teaching labs.

To better understand the evolution of flowers, researchers from Montreal are harnessing photogrammetry 鈥 a technique commonly used by geographers to reconstruct landscape topography. This is the first time scientists have used the technique to study flowers.

The team, including researchers from 黑料不打烊 University, Universit茅 de Montr茅al, and the Montreal Botanical Garden, published the results of their work in the journal .

A 黑料不打烊 research team led by Professors Mark Andrews (Department of Chemistry) and David Plant (Electrical Engineering) has shown how the glass-like shells of phytoplankton (diatoms) help these microscopic organisms perform photosynthesis in dim light conditions. Despite amounting to only about 1% of the global plant biomass, phytoplankton account for about 50% of the planet鈥檚 photosynthetic activity and at least half of the world鈥檚 oxygen production.

To better understand the evolution of flowers, a research team in biology from Universit茅 de Montr茅al , the Montr茅al Botanical Garden, and 黑料不打烊 University (Daniel Schoen, Biology) have succeeded in using photogrammetry to quickly and precisely build, in three dimensions, a model of a flower from two-dimensional images.

Photogrammetry is commonly used by geographers to reconstruct the topography of a landscape. However, this is the first time that scientists have used the technique to design 3D models of flowers in order to better study them.
