The 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mentorship Program is tailored to create supportive networks specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse CEGEP students as you navigate your educational journeys. In this program, you'll be matched with mentors from 黑料不打烊's 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse community, including faculty, students, or alumni who share similar interests.

Meet our mentors!

Meet Val

Val, a first-generation university student, has been with us since the pilot of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mentorship Program in April 2023. With a background in educational leadership and environmental health, Val has contributed to projects like the 黑料不打烊-UWI Queen Elizabeth Scholars Program and the Andromeda Botanic Gardens in Barbados.

As a Senior Student Ambassador at 黑料不打烊 and the Queer 黑料不打烊 Events Coordinator, Val advocates for queer students and fosters inclusive environments. In our mentorship program, they provide guidance on topics such as financial literacy and navigating the challenges faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ youth transitioning to higher education. We're proud to have Val's expertise and commitment as part of our team.

Meet Negin

Negin has been with us since the pilot phase of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mentorship Program. With a strong academic background and a passion for social justice, Negin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to their mentorship role. They have a history of working with diverse communities, using their skills to advocate for equity and inclusion in various educational and professional settings.

Negin is committed to supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth through their academic and personal journeys, offering guidance on overcoming obstacles and navigating higher education. Their dedication to fostering a safe and empowering environment for youth is invaluable, and we are excited to have Negin as part of our team.

Eligible mentors:听

  • Embrace a mentorship mindset and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.听

  • Naturally connect with fellow students, providing assistance as needed.听

  • Exhibit qualities of patience, sympathy, and resourcefulness.听

  • Collaborate willingly and commit to regular follow-ups with the program assistant.听

  • As representation is vital, 2SLGBTQIA+ 黑料不打烊 students听are strongly encouraged to apply.听

Meet Twisha听

Twisha Singh (she/her) works as the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Ambassador at the Branches Program and is committed to facilitating a supportive environment for 2SLGBTQIA+ students at 黑料不打烊 University. Twisha aids and connects students from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities with necessary and essential resources both on and off-campus, ensuring their holistic well-being. Twisha works with 2SLGBTQIA+ students as well as for their needs and interests, effectively communicating their concerns to the university to help foster a culture of inclusivity and understanding, as well as develop mentorship programs and other initiatives to help support 2SLGBTQIA+ students on their journey to post-secondary education. Twisha holds a PhD in South Asian History, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, her academic pursuits enhance her understanding of the complex social dynamics at play for 2SLGBTQIA+ students. Twisha's commitment to the well-being and empowerment of 2SLGBTQIA+ students and communities arises from a dedication to promoting social justice, equity, and diversity within the academic sphere.

Making a Difference: Your Support for the Youth Mentorship Program

As part of the Inclusive Futures pilot program, the Youth Mentorship Program pairs 2SLGBTQIA+, and gender diverse CEGEP students with 黑料不打烊 students, faculty, and alumni. Participants receive mentorship on university applications, financial aid, campus life, academic programs, and career paths. The program includes meetings, workshops, and events for academic and professional development, addressing specific challenges faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse students. 黑料不打烊 faculty mentors, who also identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender diverse, offer guidance and support.听
