Allan A. Hodgson Arts Internship Award
Jung Min Kim, U2, Mathematics and Economics Jung Min is in his second year pursuing a major in Mathematics and Economics. He will be interning this summer at Elimu Impact Evaluation Centre, a non-profit organization based in Kianyaga, Kenya. Elimu evaluates the effectiveness of projects in promoting economic development. He will be assisting in data analysis, remote tutoring, and the provision of legal aid. He looks forward to this opportunity to apply statistical knowledge from his studies and support economic development. |

Samuel Balcazar, U3, Joint Honours Economics and Finance Samuel is pursuing a Joint Honours program in Economics and Finance, with a minor in International Development. This summer, he will intern with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Ecuador, supporting and working alongside the finance department in data analysis and ensuring compliance with the organization鈥檚 financial strategy. Samuel is thrilled to explore the overlap between finance and international development, particularly in the context of South America. |

Qi Rong Chen, U1, Political Science and Economics Qi Rong will be interning this summer with La Table de quartier Peter-黑料不打烊. La Table de quartier Peter-黑料不打烊 is a non-profit organization and neighbourhood roundtable that brings together bodies in the western downtown to improve life in the neighbourhood. Qi Rong's main tasks consist of making a resource directory for Familles Centre-Ville and a resource map. Qi Rong is very excited and is looking forward to encountering different communities in Montreal. |

Hannah Silver, U1,听Political Science Hannah Silver is a passionate student pursuing her joint honours degree in Political Science and Gender, Sexuality, Feminism, and Social Justice Studies. This summer, she has the pleasure to work with Women鈥檚 Voices for the Earth, a non-profit organization dedicated to amplifying women鈥檚 voices and eliminating the toxic chemicals that harm our health and environment. As their development intern, she will be researching potential cy pres awards, grants, and business partnership funding. |
Andrew Buntain Arts Internship Award
Claire Michaud, U3, Honours History and Art History Claire is a third-year student pursuing a double major in History and Art History. She will be interning at the 78th Fraser Highlanders, a Montreal historical association dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge of the Highland soldiers who fought in the Seven Years鈥 War in North America. Claire is looking forward to exploring the archives of the Canadian organization and to learn more about the descendants of these Scots, many of whom settled in Quebec after the war. |
The Archie Malloch Undergraduate Internships in Public Learning
Sarah Ford, U2, Cultural Studies Sarah is a U2 student majoring in Cultural Studies and minoring in Art History and Communications. She will be interning remotely at Rotating Planet Productions, a media organization based in Montreal that has produced award winning, internationally broadcast documentaries, TV series, and short films surrounding nature and wildlife. She is excited to contribute to the company鈥檚 current projects in promotional and developmental roles. |

Xara Jamey, U2, Religious Studies and Anthropology Xara will be interning with Montreal鈥檚 Suoni Per il Popolo music festival, which annually showcases the relationship between music, sound and cinema and social and political movements. She hopes to use her background in live music event programming and organization to help produce this year鈥檚 virtual lineup. Xara seeks to work in media that is meaningful and is excited to see firsthand how entertainment can extend into community outreach and activism. |

Ariana Rezaei, U3, International Development Studies Ariana will be interning at the Massachusetts State House, the state capitol and seat of government for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, under Representative Dylan Fernandes. As a research intern, Ariana looks forward to learning more about local and state government affairs, deepening her interests in economic and sustainable development. Through this internship, she is excited about working alongside environmental organizations in efforts to protect and preserve the natural environment of Martha鈥檚 Vineyard and Nantucket. |

Hussain Awan, U3, International Development Studies and Islamic Studies Hussain is entering his final year, majoring in International Development Studies and Islamic Studies and minoring in French. He will be interning at the Weatherhead Center at Harvard University, which facilitates the production of pathbreaking social science research on international, comparative, transnational, and global issues. Hussain will be researching political theory, Middle East foreign policy, and Iran-USA relations. Hussain hopes to refine his research skills and acquire familiarity with large scale academic projects through this internship. |

Kiran Basra, U1, Philosophy and Political Science Kiran is a rising third year student who is pursuing a double major in Philosophy and Political Science. This summer, Kiran will work at FW Canada as a legal intern. FW Canada is an immigration law firm that helps clients overcome criminal barriers and gain citizenship. As a legal intern, Kiran will assist clients in the completion of their immigration application, write letters to the Canadian consulate, and research influential immigration cases to update the law library. |

Benjamin Boehlert, U3, Economics Currently a fourth-year economics student at 黑料不打烊 University, Ben Boehlert will be interning at the UBI Center, a non-profit dedicated to studying the importance of cash transfers in reducing poverty and improving well-being. Ben will be working on a project looking at the consequences of a child allowance in California and another comparing the effects of a flat child allowance to those of subsidized child care. |

Emma Boucher, U3, Political Science This summer, Emma will serve as Education Intern at Monthly Dignity. The nonprofit was originally founded by 黑料不打烊 students in 2017 with the goal of ameliorating period poverty in Montreal by providing period products to houseless menstruators. As Education Intern, Emma will be creating community workshops to facilitate dialogue and break down the dual stigmas surrounding menstruation and houselessness. |

Selena Cai, U1, History and Economics Selena is a rising second-year student at 黑料不打烊. She will be interning with ALPHA Education, an education, non-profit, and registered charity in Canada. Currently in the process of creating the Asia Pacific Peace Museum, ALPHA Education champions peace, social justice, and humanity, as well, the remembrance of the history of World War 2 in Asia through critical-historical investigation. Through her internship, Selena will be able to curate museum content and create history education resources. |

El茅onore d鈥橢spinose de Lacaillerie, U3, English Cultural Studies and Communications El茅onore will be interning as a marketing and communications coordinator at the Cin茅math猫que qu茅b茅coise. The Cin茅math猫que qu茅b茅coise safeguards French-Canadian and Canadian cinema, as well as international animation. She will help the communications team with expanding their network and developing new access to cinematic archives on their website. El茅onore looks forward to actively taking part in the cin茅math猫que鈥檚 mission to promote cinematographic art in all its forms. |

Taylor Douglas, U2, Political Science and Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies Taylor Douglas is a Joint-Honours student in Political Science and Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies, and her internship is at the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights. The Consortium works to bring gendered insights and feminist theory into the post-conflict context, and is currently working on the Feminist Roadmap for Sustainable Peace and Planet (FRSPP) which aims to replace UNSCR 1325 to promote an intersectional framework to approach peacebuilding to create sustainable and gender-just outcomes. |

Oliver Habert, U2, Computer Science After completing his third year at 黑料不打烊, Oliver will be interning with Harvard University鈥檚 Computer Vision Lab. Throughout this internship, Oliver will be building upon a web-based virtual reality platform for research and education related to binocular stereo vision. The platform will allow the public to experience and interact with scientific binocular stereo stimuli and engage in large-scale psychophysics studies. Oliver is completing a major and minor in computer science and is eager to gain experience in the IT field. |

Samuel Jett茅, U3, Political Science Samuel is a third-year Political Science student who is expected to graduate in December 2021. During his last summer as a 黑料不打烊 student, he will be interning with the U.S. Consulate General in Montr茅al. As a Political, Economic, and Commercial Analyst, Samuel will spend half of his internship reporting on Quebec issues of interest and the other half promoting international business and trade. This internship will introduce him to the broader realm of diplomacy. |

Oscar Judelson-Kelly, U2, Political Science and History Oscar will be interning at Resource Works, an organization that communicates valuable natural resources insights in British Columbia to citizens, lobbyists and professionals in the private and public sectors. The organization seeks to raise the public consciousness of natural resource management in BC, specifically how to reconcile with natural resource development with indigenous people, sustain the province鈥檚 economic growth and protect BC鈥檚 diverse habitats. He is looking forward to working on policy briefs concerning natural resource crises in British Columbia and producing content for the organization鈥檚 media presence. |

Katja Juthans, U3, Political Science, Economics, and Indigenous Studies Katja will be interning with the Vancouver Art Gallery as a Government Relations intern in their Development Department. The Gallery is one of North America鈥檚 most respected and innovative visual arts institutions that pays special attention to Indigenous and Asian-Pacific Art. Katja will be assisting the development department with political strategizing and raising government funding for the Gallery鈥檚 new building in Downtown Vancouver. Katja looks forward to engaging in political work on behalf of a socially responsible non-profit. |

Hannah Kahn Glass, U3, English Cultural Studies Hannah is a fourth-year student majoring in Cultural Studies with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist and Social Justice Studies. This summer she will be interning at Zumwalt Acres, a regenerative farm in Sheldon, Illinois as their communications coordinator. She is excited to be a part of helping Zumwalt Acres grow as they develop a replicable model of ecologically sustainable and socially just land stewardship in Illinois. |

Jacob Lokash, U2, Political Science and History This summer, Jacob will work in the Leader鈥檚 Office at the Green Party of Canada. He will get the chance to do research, write policy briefing notes, and assist the Leader鈥檚 Office with many other important tasks. As someone with an avid interest in politics, Jacob is excited to learn more about the practical aspects of policymaking in Canada. With this experience, Jacob hopes to further his future academic and career goals in fields of law and public policy. |

Sajneet Mangat, U3, History Sajneet is an Honours History student minoring in Social Studies of Medicine. As a research intern at the Overwatch India Initiative, she will develop a historical dataset of instances of public violence in India since 1850. She will also contribute to long-form articles based on the data, drawing from her experience in writing and data visualization. She is looking forward to interrogating identity-based violence in India, and nurture her passion for making data talk. |

Jemima Maycock, U2, International Development Studies and Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice Studies Jemima is a third-year student pursuing a double major in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice studies (GSFS) and International Development studies. She will be interning with Media Queer, which is an online archive of queer and feminist media. More specifically, she will be working with the FRQSC research team, CORERISC, and doing work on epistemologies of embodied risk. During her internship, she will support the work of MONSTRUM journal through helping put together a grant application. She looks forward to conducting research on journal accessibility and bringing her findings to this project to ensure it is accessible for all. |

Arsh Prakash, U2, International Development Studies and Psychology Arsh will serve as a Marketing and Branding Intern for Paragon One, a NYC based Education-Tech company. He will work on various projects in social media, outreaching and marketing. This will include creating strategies as well as content for various campaigns, posting and analyzing impact of engagement on different social media channels, designing marketing collateral including videos, and interacting with the community Paragon One that serves to gather feedback and create content. At 黑料不打烊, he enjoys his interdisciplinary studies in International Development, Political Science, and Psychology. |

Isabella Gavanski, U2, Psychology and International Development Studies This summer Isabella will be pursuing her passion for social justice by interning with the non-profit organization The Stateless Collective. The internship will give Isabella an opportunity to create lessons that inspire high school students to make positive changes in their communities and abroad. Isabella will help the students prepare for college by introducing them to research methodology, and teaching them about diverse subjects related to human rights and effective humanitarian interventions in crisis situations. |

Zachary Beresin, U2, Joint Honours Geography and International Development Studies Zachary Beresin is in his third year at 黑料不打烊 University, pursuing a Joint Honours degree in Geography and International Development Studies. Zachary is currently working to complete his undergraduate thesis entitled 鈥業nvestigating the Effects of COVID-19 on the Operations of the Montr茅al M茅tro鈥, supervised by Professor Kevin Manaugh of the Department of Geography. His interests include a mix of urban planning, sustainability, and geopolitics, which he hopes to develop interning this summer for NewCities. |

Eliza Farber, U2, Psychology Eliza is entering her fourth year at 黑料不打烊 and is pursuing a major in Psychology with minors in Communications and History. She will be interning in the Music Department at CKUT Radio, a Montreal/黑料不打烊 campus-community radio station. She is excited to learn about the field of radio journalism while also immersing herself in the Montreal community. Ultimately, she sees herself using her experience at CKUT to propel her into a future career in journalism. |

Studying Sociology, Art History, and Communication studies, Aviva hopes to enrich her rounded knowledge through exposure to the art industry. |

Camille Hamant, U3, Art History Camilla Hamant is a third-year student completing their Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Art History, Marketing, and Communications at 黑料不打烊 University. They are excited to be completing an internship with the Kabir Centre and are confident that this opportunity to work in the arts and cultural sector will help to prepare them to work in the development department of an auction house in the future. Stephanie Pye, U3, Cognitive Science This summer, Stephanie will be completing an internship as a science writer and communicator at the Compassion Research Lab in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary. She will be translating knowledge from the lab鈥檚 published research articles for a clinical and public audience. She looks forward to helping engage these audiences in the valuable and impactful work of the Compassion Research Lab. |

Nazlie Najafi, U2, World Islamic and Middle East Studies Nazlie will intern with the Acc猫s Asie Festival, a Montreal-based festival focusing on promoting arts, culture, and stories of Asian communities through a variety of artistic disciplines. She will assist in the marketing and development, event coordination, and general administrative work of the festival. Nazlie has a history in cultural work and artistic management and she is thrilled to put her skills towards an organization that promotes the presence of multicultural communities in Montreal. |

Kabir Centre is a not-for-profit arts centre focusing on South Asian Classical Music, Dance, Poetry and Literature and incorporating it within the vibrant cultures of Montreal. By applying his studies in development and economics, Jon will meaningfully engage with the regional athletic community. As a lifelong student-athlete, Jon is excited at the opportunity to meaningfully aid the development of his own home鈥檚 sports community as an intern in business development and sales. |

Sebastian Villegas, U3, Political Science and International Development Studies Sebastian is entering his last year of studies with a double major in Political Science and International Development. This summer he will have the opportunity to work with the Center for Democratic Development in Ghana (CDD), a non-profit, non-governmental organization that focuses on research and advocacy for democracy and democratic governance. He will be conducting desk research, developing research proposals, and writing research reports. He looks forward to developing his research skills with hands-on experience and contributing to the expansion of democratic governance across the developing world. |
Bryce Internship Award
Helen McLachlan, U2, Honours History Helen McLachlan is a third-year honours History student with a minor in Geography. She is looking forward to interning with the 78th Fraser Highlanders in Montreal. The 78th Fraser Highlanders were a Highland battalion that fought in the Seven Years War including in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. She will be researching the genealogy and substantial legacy of the descendants of the soldiers who settled in Canada. |

Equitas is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of human rights values through education. With education, Equitas hopes to empower individuals to protect, defend and respect human rights. During this remote internship, Maxiene is hoping to deepen her commitment to human rights and connect the knowledge acquired through her academic journey into meaningful action. |

Theodore Chiara, U2, Political Science and Philosophy Theo is entering his fourth year of his double major degree in Political Science and Philosophy. Academically, Theo has a wide variety of interests, and in political science his favorites are international relations and American issues of social justice with an emphasis on indigenous affairs. In philosophy, Theo enjoys the work of Kant, Aristotle, and Heidegger with a special interest in political philosophy and phenomenology. At the PCL, Theo wants to learn more about researching, analyzing, and improving the social world. |

Saruul Khishigjargal, U3, Honours International Development Studies Saruul will be interning at More than Words, a four-year project (2019-2023) funded by Women and Gender Equality. More than Words seeks to investigate and learn from the use of Indigenous-focused youth-led survivor engagement through the arts. Saruul will develop creative ways to communicate research data, participate in arts-based projects, and create a monitoring and evaluations toolkit. Through this internship she will learn about research development, participatory visual methodologies, and community engagement. |

Elina Qureshi, U3, International Development Studies Elina Qureshi is a U3 student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Development and Economics. Her academic interests include public policy, international environmental policy, and transnational migration. She is passionate about furthering equity and sustainability through her work and is looking forward to contributing towards community development initiatives at the IHDW and learning more about participatory visual research and how young people can be empowered with the tools to speak and 鈥榮peak back鈥. |

Kai Trotz-Motayne, U3, History and African Studies Kai, a joint Honours student in History and African Studies, will be completing an internship with the Regent Park Film Festival in Toronto. Kai is passionate about non-profit work and as it pertains to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Regent Park Film Festival works within these same communities to provide a free community film festival. Through this remote internship, Kai will gain firsthand experience working within a Canadian non-profit. Native to Toronto, Kai is looking to become involved and learn more about this city she calls home. |

Ana茂s Pronovost-Morgan, U2, Liberal Arts Ana茂s is a second-year student pursuing a major in Honours Liberal Arts. She will be interning at the Livart gallery, a non-profit organization and multidisciplinary art center in Montreal. As an assistant to education, she will be creating cultural mediation content to make contemporary art more accessible to children. Ana茂s is looking forward to immersing herself in the contemporary cultural sector while actively participating in the development of short- and long-term projects for the organization. |
David Tarr and Gisele Chevrefils Arts Internship Award
Naomi Shi, U2, Political Science Naomi will intern at the United States Consulate General in Toronto. Growing up in Vancouver and witnessing the extensive relationship Canada shares with the United States, she is interested in exploring America's bilateral relationships and their critical impact on the international order. Naomi will be working with diplomats in the Political Economic Section, and she looks forward to gaining insight on diplomatic processes and how international relations are fostered in practice. |
The Davies Family Arts International Internship Award
Chloe Breton, U2, Political Science Chloe is a U2 Political Science major with a minor in Sociology and Social Entrepreneurship. She will be interning with Indigenous Movement of Peace Advancement and Conflict Transformation (IMPACT), working on peace building, community advancement, and tackling discrimination towards minorities alongside land rights of indigenous groups. Chloe鈥檚 interests lie in the relationship between governance and exclusionary practices towards minorities, as well as ethnonational conflict and how to resolve it. |

Eyitayo Kunle-Oladosu, U3, Honours History Eyitayo is an Honours History student minoring in International Development Studies and Communication Studies. She will be interning with the Indigenous Livelihoods Enhancement Partners - a non-governmental organization partnered with the Institutional Canopy of Conservation Projects and focused on advancing human and land rights amongst the pastoral Maasai of Narok County, Kenya. She looks forward to applying her legal research and advocacy experience to support ILEPA in report writing, fundraising, and publishing an independent study paper. |
Faculty of Arts Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism Fund
Alice Ishimwe, U2, Social Work Alice Ishimwe is entering her final year of Social Work. She is particularly interested in migration studies and working with people who are new to Canada. This summer, she is interning with Montreal-based Filipino grassroots organizations who are getting together to carry out a project to celebrate the journey of Filipino immigrants who arrived in Canada from 1992 to 2022. Alice is looking forward to gaining research and community practice skills through this internship. |

Marie Tanou, U3, Political Science and African Studies Marie will be interning this summer with the Africa Canada Trade and Investment Venture in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As an International Trade and Business intern, Marie will have the opportunity to discover the mechanisms behind the facilitation of inter and intra African commerce. She will also learn to quantify the possible investment risks on the continent, as well as the tools and methods used to tackle such issues. Marie hopes this internship will provide her solid grounds to launch her career in Business and Administration in the near future. |
The Faculty of Arts Internship Award
Ottilia Scott, U3, Political Science and International Development Studies Ottilia is a U3 student in Political Science and International Development Studies who will be interning remotely at the Center for Democratic Development (CDD). CDD is a civil society organization that works to promote and deepen democratic consolidation in Ghana. Her primary responsibilities will be to assist the Center's various directors and project managers in their research and advocacy activities. She hopes that this experience will deepen her analytical skills and understanding of good governance. |

Ilesh Thomas, U2, Honours History Ilesh will be interning for the Jardin de M茅tis, a Canadian National Historic site in Grand-M茅tis, Qu茅bec. He will be researching history of salmon fishing and the relatively unknown lives of fishing guides in the Gasp茅 region for an exhibition that the Jardin de M茅tis is currently developing. He is thrilled to be able to do such practical and challenging research to enrich the field of Qu茅b茅cois history. |

This summer, she will be completing an internship at Synergos, a non-profit organization based in New York that aims to find solutions to complex issues in various countries through building trust and collective action. At Synergos, Gayatri will be working in the Programs and Bridging Leadership Department and collaborating on ongoing development projects. She hopes to gain experience and skills for her graduate studies and gain insight into working at an NGO. |

Maria Laura Chobadindegui, U2, Joint Honours Political Science and Philosophy Maria Laura will be interning with the Ecuador branch office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She will work to strengthen communication with communities, including dissemination of information on COVID-19. As a political science honours student, she is beyond excited to apply her knowledge in international human rights and Latin American politics to an internship with the world鈥檚 leading organization aiding and protecting refugees, displaced communities and stateless people. |

Heleena De Oliveira, U3, Anthropology and Political Science Heleena is currently pursuing a double major in Political Science and Anthropology. This summer, she will be completing a remote internship for Synergos, a non-profit organization based in New York. Synergos is mandated to tackle complex societal issues around the world through employing an approach which intends to cultivate trust and collaboration among diverse stakeholders in order to inspire systemic change in the world. This internship will allow Heleena to work amongst members of the Global Philanthropists Circle by providing project management support to the team working on Development and Consulting Services operations. |

Isabel Mu帽oz Bealieu, U3, Joint Honours International Development Studies and Philosophy Isabel Mu帽oz is a third-year student at 黑料不打烊, this summer she is interning remotely with UNHCR Guatemala. The United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees is an organization that protects and assists asylum-seekers, refugees, forcibly displaced persons, and others with protection needs or risk of displacement. Her work this summer will focus on assisting the Resettlement officer in Guatemala in case management functions. She hopes this experience will teach her more about issues on migration and the role international organizations play in it. |

She will be interning remotely with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the world鈥檚 largest regional security organization under the United Nations Charter. This summer, she will be interning with the International Institute for Sustainable Development. The IISD is an independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. Anjali will be working in the Resilience team, doing research and literature reviews on climate change and resilience-related topics, with a focus on gender equality and social inclusion. |

Barbara Badiambile, U2, Social Work Barbara Badiambile is in her second year at the 黑料不打烊 School of Social Work. She will intern remotely for Audace au f茅minin, a non-profit community organization that strives to empower and to emancipate Black women economically and socially. Barbara is extremely passionate about this cause and hopes to help expand the current and limited body of qualitative research available on Black women in Quebec. She is excited to use her social work skills to interview Black women and publish their biographies as testimonies of resiliency and excellence. |

This summer she will be interning with Women AWARE / Femmes Averties, a Montreal-based non-profit that assists survivors of conjugal violence. Through this internship she hopes to assist individuals in their healing process as well as gain insight into the functioning of non-profit organizations. |

Karlee Thomas, U2, International Development Studies and Political Science Karlee is a second-year International Development Studies and Political Science major. This summer she will be interning with Desta Black Youth Network, a non-profit community-based organization, which serves to mentor marginalized youth between the ages of 18-35 in education, employment, and personal growth. Her role will assist in developing individual service plans for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals by providing resources for human rights advocacy, counseling, and legal aid. Karlee hopes to gain invaluable insight into a social justice and human rights career. |

鈥 Fran莽ois-Xavier Auger, U3, Political Science and Economics Fran莽ois-Xavier will intern at the Qu茅bec Government Office in New York, the province鈥檚 primary representation in the United States. The Office is part of a network of diplomatic delegations that seek to strengthen Qu茅bec bilateral ties with foreign states. Fran莽ois-Xavier, building upon previous experience in international business and diplomacy in Europe and North America, will join the New York-based staff to advocate for a mutually beneficial economic interconnectedness between Qu茅bec and the Mid-Atlantic region. |

Through her internship, she hopes to deepen her understanding about the complexities of the public health crisis, learn project management skills, and tangibly contribute to the fight against air pollution in Mongolia. |

Emma Buchta, U3, International Development Studies and Political Science Emma Buchta will intern at Innercity Weightlifting (ICW) this summer. ICW is a Boston-based non-profit that hires previously incarcerated individuals and trains them to be personal fitness trainers. Their main goal is to reduce the prevalence of street violence while simultaneously amplifying the voices and agency of people who have been most impacted by systemic racism and mass incarceration. Emma will serve as the Member Services intern and assist the Director of Operations and Finance. |
