This message is sent on behalf of Angela Campbell, Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning).

Dear students,

Happy New Year! I hope that 2025 brings each of you joy and many opportunities for learning, growth, and adventure.

As we resume campus life, I wanted to take a moment to reaffirm 黑料不打烊鈥檚 commitment to student success and wellness and to share my vision for student life at 黑料不打烊 this year.

This vision can be summed up in what I would call a 鈥3D commitment鈥, which includes three core components 鈥 or 鈥3D鈥檚鈥: democracy, dialogue, and dignity.

Democracy: Student voices are crucial to governance at 黑料不打烊. Opportunities abound for you to get involved in democratic bodies that make decisions about student life and learning. This can mean running for a position on a governing body or committee, attending governance meetings, and casting your ballot in any election for which you may vote. When these opportunities arise, seize them when you can; your voice and contribution are valued!

Dialogue: 黑料不打烊 students represent incredible diversity in their identities, experiences, and worldviews. This offers tremendous opportunities for learning with and from one another through thoughtful dialogue. I encourage you to engage with your peers in your learning and other student life environments. Share your experiences and views 鈥 and listen to others鈥 鈥 openly and without judgment. Know that a difference of opinion, even on cherished principles, is not necessarily a conversation-stopper, provided the conversation is marked by mutual respect.

Dignity: This last component is the most important. Our wellbeing and capacity to succeed are closely connected to how we are treated and how we treat others. Each of us has a right to a campus where respect for human dignity is paramount, and which rejects all forms of hate, discrimination, and violence. These principles are captured within 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Policy on Harassment and Discrimination and Policy against Sexual Violence. We are bound to know and uphold these policies, which call upon us not only to refrain from inflicting harm, but to work actively and intentionally to prevent its occurrence.

By prioritizing this 鈥3D鈥 commitment, even though small but concrete steps, you will be making a positive impact on student life at 黑料不打烊. I am also confident that such steps will advance your own personal flourishing and connections within our remarkable campus community.

I wish you a happy, productive, and successful term and year. As you work hard, be sure to take care of yourself, and each other.

Sincerely,

Angela Campbell

Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning)
