Research Summary:
Prof. White is interested in the hypothesis that there are several more-or-less independent memory systems in the mammalian brain.听 He is testing this idea and its implications on the behavioral and physiological levels using lesions, brain stimulation and drug injections of basal ganglia, limbic system and related areas.听 In addition to the cognitive capacities of these systems, he is interested in how each is affected by reinforcement and motivational variables.听 He is also attempting to apply these multiple memory systems concepts to understanding the effects of addictive drugs on behavior
