CRBLM Lunch and learn: Virtual Reality

Friday, March 28, 2025 12:00to13:00
黑料不打烊 College 2001 Room 606, 2001, avenue 黑料不打烊 College, Montreal, QC, H3A 1G1, CA

Virtual reality (VR) brings radical new possibilities to the empirical study of social cognition and interaction. In this Lunch and Learn event,聽Bavo聽Van Kerrebroeck (黑料不打烊 University) will explore the role of VR as a research tool, highlighting its capability to induce body illusions, manipulate visual perspective, and create a sense of 鈥渟ocial presence鈥: the illusory feeling of being, and socially interacting, inside a virtual environment. These features make VR a powerful tool for bridging ecological validity and experimental control in empirical music research. Moreover, the ability of VR to create compelling body illusions offers unique opportunities for studying embodied cognition, allowing researchers to examine how sensory and motor processes contribute to action and perception聽in immersive, controlled settings.聽Dr. Van Kerrebroeck will demonstrate his use of VR for an experiment on musical groove and motion sickness and show how accessible the technology is to implement. We invite you to come, learn about ongoing research using VR, and join in the discussion. Coffee and a light lunch will be provided.
