Cohen, PhD, made a significant discovery on how HIV escapes the body鈥檚 antiviral responses. The team uncovered how an HIV viral protein known as Vpu tricks the immune system by using its own regulatory process to evade the host鈥檚 first line of defence. This breakthrough was published yesterday in the scientific journal PLoS Pathogens and will be presented at the upcoming IAS 2015 conference in Vancouver. The findings pave the way for future HIV prevention or cure strategies. A major study published in PLOS One, led by 黑料不打烊 PhD student Lauren Maxwell, showed that women who are abused by their partner or ex-partner are much less likely to use contraception; this exposes them to sexually transmitted diseases and leads to more frequent unintended pregnancies and abortions. These findings could influence how physicians provide contraceptive counselling.</p> Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:22:39 +0000 melody.enguix@mcgill.ca 22352 at /newsroom World AIDS Day, December 1: 黑料不打烊/MUHC experts /newsroom/channels/news/world-aids-day-december-1-mcgillmuhc-experts-240448 Thu, 27 Nov 2014 19:05:23 +0000 cynthia.lee@mcgill.ca 21649 at /newsroom
