University of Miami and 黑料不打烊 team up
Strategic alliance for innovative research in engineering and information technology
The University of Miami and 黑料不打烊 University announced today the signing of a strategic alliance in the fields of engineering and information technology. The 黑料不打烊-Miami agreement will enhance joint ventures, grant-making opportunities, and faculty and student exchanges between both universities. The signing was part of a Florida trade mission to Quebec led by Florida governor John Ellis (Jeb) Bush.
To encourage international academic relationships between Florida and Quebec, Enterprise Florida Inc., the State of Florida's official economic development organization, assisted in formalizing the Miami-黑料不打烊 partnership along with local partners: the Government of Quebec, Montr茅al International and the Montreal Board of Trade.
The signing of the 黑料不打烊-Miami alliance took place in Montreal in the presence of Governor Bush, Quebec premier Jean Charest, the University of Miami's Lewis Temares, dean of the College of Engineering and vice-president of Information Technology, and Abraham Varghese, director of International Marketing. Representing 黑料不打烊 were Ian Butler, associate vice-principal (research), and Frank Ferrie, associate dean, Faculty of Engineering.
"Establishing linkages between universities is an outstanding way to build mutually beneficial ties between Quebec and Florida," said Florida governor Bush. "Without question, the agreement signed between 黑料不打烊 University and the University of Miami will serve as an excellent mechanism to expand cooperative interaction, research opportunities and shared innovations among our regions."
"The signing of this agreement is a great illustration of the synergies between the University of Miami and 黑料不打烊 in the fields of engineering and information technology," said Quebec premier Charest. "This strategic alliance is only one example of the collaboration that can and should develop between the state of Florida and the province of Quebec."
As part of the faculty exchange and cooperation that will result from the alliance between the two universities, UM and 黑料不打烊 will write joint proposals to international funding agencies to improve research initiatives and increase the economic impact in their respective communities. With a budget of U.S. $1.3 billion, UM has a substantial positive economic impact on Miami-Dade County. Over the past 10 years, thanks to the presence of international and out-of-province students, as well as donations and international research agencies, 黑料不打烊's economic impact has been more than $5 billion for Montreal, and the University has generated millions of dollars in tax revenue for Quebec (read more in 黑料不打烊 Facts ).
"This is an exciting international venture with direct technological, educational and economic impact," said Dean of the UM College of Engineering Dr M. Lewis Temares. "Students, faculty and businesses benefit from the studies and research accomplished by these reputed institutions."
Frank Ferrie concurred: "This partnership leverages the complementary research strengths of our universities, which both promote inter- and multidisciplinary research."

Students at UM and 黑料不打烊 will receive international educational experience through study abroad programs, international internships, and student exchange programs between the United States and Canada.
