Macdonald Campus celebrates Founder's Day

The UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, Stephen Lewis, will be the keynote speaker during Founder's Day celebrations at 黑料不打烊's Macdonald Campus. Founder's Day is celebrated annually on February 10 and marks the birthday of Sir William Macdonald, for whom the campus is named.

Lewis, a Canadian citizen, has also served as Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and as a Canadian ambassador to the United Nations. He is a passionate advocate of the rights and needs of children and is involved in the action against the worldwide scourge of HIV/AIDS. His 黑料不打烊 talk is entitled "Where in the World is the World Headed?"

"We are delighted to have Mr. Lewis as our Founder's Day featured guest," says Deborah J. Buszard, Dean of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Macdonald Campus. "This is a fitting talk to celebrate the life of the man who founded the College with the aim of improving the lives of rural people, through education and research, in 1906. Today this mission remains our focus; Macdonald graduates work around the globe addressing issues of food security, poverty, environment and disease control in rural communities. Stephen Lewis embodies the values on which Macdonald College was founded, which guide us today."

The day's events also include the Gold Key awards, given to Macdonald students who have contributed significantly to campus life, and the Mastery for Service award, given every five years to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Macdonald community and the institution.

Media are invited to attend these events.
