Science Award recipients honoured at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Open House

Who says science is for nerds? Not Einstein or Newton, and not some 250 high school students who received ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Science Awards. They will be honoured during an exclusive presentation on January 30 during ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Open House.

"We have more winners this year than in previous ones," said Science Award program coordinator Patrizia Gagliardi. "We are aiming to offer this award to all the public and private high schools in Quebec, and we are almost there. We are pleased with the enthusiasm from the recipients and their parents."

Since its inception in 2002, approximately 600 high school students have received the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Science Award. The award recognizes a graduating student from a Quebec high school who shows exceptional promise in science or mathematics.

"We are hopeful this award will motivate students to pursue careers in science and technology," added Gagliardi. "This initiative has been quite successful — approximately 50 percent of the past awardees attended ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ."

Thousands of students from Quebec, Ontario, the US and overseas are expected to visit the campus during ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Open House. They will have the opportunity to tour the campus and meet with professors and scholars from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's faculties and professional schools. The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Martlets women's hockey team will also be showing their stuff during a game against Carleton in the afternoon.

Media are welcome to attend Open House by contacting Cynthia Lee at 514-398-4467 (cell 514-248-9058) or by presenting themselves at the Arts Building (853 Sherbrooke St). Tours are available from 11 am to 4 pm, January 30. For a complete list of activities, see the .
