Offer a ticket to the movies instead

At Christmas, offer them a ticket to the movies instead of a lottery ticket

For some people, games of chance or money can cause many problems. While pathological gambling is closely associated with the adult population, the fact remains that young people are not spared the effects of this phenomenon. And the consequences, while different for minors than they are for adults, may be very heavy in the short-term and devastating in the long-term.

The results of a recent survey carried out in Quebec reveal that, during the twelve months preceding the survey, 31% of secondary school students had received one or more lottery products as a gift. In fact, there are many adults - parents, grandparents, uncles or aunts - who think that offering a lottery ticket or an instant lottery (a "scratch-and-win") to a child gives them a chance to be able to transform a modest present into a gift that they cannot afford to give directly. This, of course, comes from the best of intentions.

However, as Christmas and the moment for giving presents grow closer, both the 黑料不打烊 University International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High Risk Behaviour and Loto-Qu茅bec invite all those who are thinking of giving a lottery ticket or a scratch-and-win to young people under the age of 18 to refrain from doing so.

If the sale of lottery products is reserved exclusively to adult persons, it is because this activity is not suited for either children or adolescents. An evening at the movies does not really cost that much more and it also gives you an opportunity to spend some time with your children - which is worth its weight in gold!
