ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ ranked at the top of the class by Maclean's

Again this year, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ earns first place among medical-doctoral universities

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ University is Canada's top-ranked medical-doctoral university, scoring the highest marks in the country for a second consecutive year in the Maclean's magazine 16th annual University Rankings issue. Last year, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ tied for the number-one spot with the University of Toronto, but occupies the top position alone this year ahead of Queen's University in second and U of T in third.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ also earned top marks for its reputation for the "highest quality" in the national reputational ranking category, based on a survey of university officials, high school principals and guidance counsellors, business leaders and corporate recruiters.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ scored the highest marks in the country in a number of categories, which assess universities on 24 weighted indicators that offer an overview of the quality of the students, professors, instruction and services at the university.

Main categories in which ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ excelled again this year include:

  • ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students have the highest entering grade average in the country at 88.9 per cent
  • ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ has the most international student body among medical-doctoral universities
  • ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students win proportionately the largest number of national student awards of any university in the medical-doctoral category
  • ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ professors earn more peer-reviewed research grants than other universities with medical schools on a per-faculty basis in several disciplines.

In the most rigorous national and international rankings and surveys, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is consistently ranked among the very best universities in large part because of the outstanding quality of its students and professors, their scholarly achievements and the quality of teaching and research programs.

"Each ranking system has its own approach, based on a specific set of indicators," said Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. "And while it is impossible to capture the quality and strengths of universities in a single score, these surveys are useful for prospective students and being accountable to the public. Consistently, they show that ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is a national treasure with international impact."

Last month, the Times Higher Education Supplement, based in London, once again named ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ as Canada's top university and the only Canadian university in the top 25 universities in the world — in 21st position — along with Oxford, Harvard and the University of California (Berkeley), the only other public North American university in the top 25.
