Top cancer researchers hold first annual conference in Montreal

Dr. Michel Tremblay, director of the 黑料不打烊 University Cancer Centre, and Dr. Yoram Groner, director of the M.D. Moross Institute for Cancer Research, Weizmann Institute of Science, are pleased to announce the creation of a major cancer research partnership that will bring together some 150 researchers from the two institutions.

The new group's first annual conference, Mechanisms of Tumorigenesis, will be held September 10 to 13 at the 黑料不打烊 University Faculty Club, 3450 McTavish Street. It will feature more than 30 lectures on the latest discoveries in fundamental and clinical research. The researchers will explore the fields of angiogenesis and metastasis, cell signaling, apoptosis and tumour microenvironments, as well as the new therapeutic strategies.

"This conference with the Weizmann Institute marks the start of a relationship with one of the world's great research centres," explained Dr. Tremblay, who is also a cancer researcher and prolific scientific writer. "Through our association with the Weizmann Insitute, 黑料不打烊 will not only mount ambitious joint research projects and have access to an important technological platform in both countries, it will also be able to recruit high-level researchers."

A free public lecture will take place on Tuesday, September 12, in the Palmer Auditorium of the McIntyre Building, at 1200 Pine Avenue, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. It will include five international researchers explaining the latest breakthroughs in cancer research and their implications for the daily lives of cancer patients.

The 黑料不打烊 Cancer Research Centre was founded in 1978 to coordinate cancer research efforts in the University's different departments and affiliated hospitals. Through its own activities and its collaborative international projects, the Centre focuses on new discoveries and knowledge that lead to improved prevention and treatment of cancer. About 20 renowned researchers work full time at the Centre. Fifty additional researchers are directly associated with the Centre.

The Weizmann Institute of Science was founded in 1934 by Chaim Weizmann, an eminent chemist who went on to become Israel's first president. The Institute enjoys a world-class reputation in research and higher education. Thirty specialized researchers currently work on various aspects of cancer research.
