Marc Angenot awarded prestigious Prix du Québec

At a ceremony at Quebec's National Assembly today honouring 11 recipients of the Prix du Québec, Marc Angenot, a professor in ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's French language and literature department, received the Prix Léon-Gérin for his outstanding contributions to the social sciences.

Marc Angenot, a world-renowned researcher, is widely considered to be the father of the social discourse theory. Professor Angenot is the James ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Research Chair on Social Discourse in the French language and literature department, where he has worked since 1967. He specializes in French literature from the 19th and 20th centuries — though his vast body of work encompasses history, linguistics, philology, semiotics, as well as literature and literary theory. The author, co-author and contributor of over 50 books, Professor Angenot has also published over 120 articles in scientific journals, as well as presented papers at over 120 colloquia and national and international conferences. He has received several prizes and distinctions, including his appointment as member of the Royal Society of Canada in 1985, a Killam research grant (1987-1989), the French-Canadian Association for the Advancement of Sciences (ACFAS) Social Sciences Prize (1996), as well as the Award for Distinction in Research from the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Faculty of Arts (2001).

About the Prix du Québec

The Prix du Québec are the most prestigious awards bestowed by the Government of Quebec in all fields of culture and science. The prizes honour outstanding researchers whose career has contributed to Quebec's scientific and cultural advancement in their respective fields. Each year, the government awards six such prizes in the cultural field and five in the scientific field.
