Expert: Bringing Shackleton鈥檚 shipwrecked Endurance back to life after 100 years聽
After more than 100 years submerged in the icy waters of Antarctica, Sir Ernest Shackleton鈥檚 legendary ship, Endurance, has been revealed in stunning 3D detail, thanks to new subsea scanning and 3D reconstruction technology developed by Deep Ocean Search, and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering James Forbes and his research group, .听
For the first time, the vessel 鈥� lost in 1915 and lying at a depth of 3,000 metres in the Weddell Sea 鈥攃an be viewed as if the murky waters have been drained away. This remarkable achievement is made possible by a digital model composed of 25,000 high-resolution images captured when the ship was discovered in 2022. 聽
The 3D model of Endurance has been released as part of a new documentary, Endurance, which will offer a window into one of history's most enduring maritime mysteries.听聽
