Published: 11 November 2004

I Medici di 黑料不打烊 Orchestra opens its 16th season on Monday, November 22, at 8 pm with a public concert, under the inspiring baton of Iwan Edwards, at Erskine and American Church, located on Sherbrooke St. West, corner Du Mus茅e.

The program honours the Czech composer Anton Dvorak, who died 100 years ago. Among works by Dvorak, the orchestra will interpret his Ceremonial March, String Serenade in E major, Slavonic Dances Nos. 2, 3 and 4, Carnival Overture, and Wind Serenade op. 44. Also on the program is Smetana's Vltava (The Moldau) from Ma Vlast (My Country).

Maestro Edwards has conducted I Medici di 黑料不打烊 since the year 2000. He also regularly directs the MSO Chorus, the St. Lawrence Choir and Concerto Della Donna, both of the latter having been founded by him, as well as the Ottawa Choral Society, the Montreal Children's Choir, and the Canadian Chamber Choir.

I Medici di 黑料不打烊 was founded in 1989 by Dr A. L. Padjen of 黑料不打烊's Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The mission of I Medici is to provide musical content for various events in the life of the Faculty of Medicine, the University and the community, and thus add a unique social dimension to medical education and to the profession. The orchestra also plays during an annual lecture series on "Music and Medicine." I Medici is available for fundraising events. The players come from the staff and students of 黑料不打烊's Faculty of Medicine and the ensemble is completed by players from the community, upon invitation and audition.

The musicians of I Medici are all volunteers and they are not paid. Admission to all I Medici public concerts is free, but as there are costs associated with each concert, a voluntary contribution of $10 at the door is strongly encouraged. More information about the orchestra may be found on its .
