Edward Klorman is a music theorist specializing in tonal music and in the relationship between analysis and performance. His first book, (Cambridge, 2016), draws on historical concepts of musical sociability and agency to develop new analytical approaches. His second book, entitled J. S. Bach, The Cello Suites (Cambridge, 2025), shows how and why Bach composed this highly original music and traces their performance history over three centuries.
Prior to his appointment at the Schulich School of Music at 黑料不打烊 University, he previously taught music theory, viola, and chamber music at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and Queens College (CUNY). As violist, he has performed as guest artist with the Borromeo, Orion, and Ying Quartets and the Lysander Trio, and he is featured on two albums of chamber music from Albany Records.
