September 12, 2022 | On Government Analytics' The Monthly podcast with host Peter Kent, director Chris Ragan spoke about rebuilding the Canadian economy in the post-Covid era.聽At the recent Jackson Hole economic policy聽,聽Jerome Powell, the head of the US central bank, spent 8-minutes making it abundantly clear he鈥檚 going to get inflation under control. A聽听迟丑补迟听聽some of America鈥檚 richest citizens, almost $10 billion a minute as the S&P 500 index聽聽6.5 percent.聽Then, the Bank of Canada stuck to a similar narrative raising the policy rate another 0.75 per cent to 3.25 per cent. Commenting on the symposium, former Director of the London School of Economics, Sir Howard Davies,聽Bloomberg Surveillance he鈥檚 concerned about central banks losing their independence. 鈥淪omehow we have to find a manageable pathway down to a lower level of inflation which politicians can support.鈥�
