Please join us for some pleasurable diversion as author Bruce Kennett reveals the mirth and creativity of American artist William Addison Dwiggins (1880鈥�1956). Dwiggins was the quintessential maker 鈥� a designer of typefaces and books, a virtuoso calligrapher, illustrator, sculptor, ornamentalist, textile designer, and builder of kites and furniture. He is also famed in the puppet world for his plays, his marionette engineering, and his designs of costumes, sets, and lighting. Throughout his long career, Dwiggins鈥檚 wit shone brightly: he used humour and satire as vehicles for advocacy 鈥� and also knew how to have fun. With abundant visuals, Bruce will share examples of Dwiggins鈥� work and wit, all infused with his joyous spirit.

Bruce Kennett聽is a writer, book designer, and photographer based in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. His comprehensive illustrated biography,聽W. A. Dwiggins: A Life in Design聽(Letterform Archive, 2018), has received rave reviews from a wide variety of sources. Nathalie Atkinson of the聽Globe and Mailselected it as her most favorite book of 2018; The American Institute of Graphic Arts chose it for their 鈥�50 Books | 50 Covers鈥� competition; and graphic design historian Steven Heller called it 鈥渁 book to spend a year with.鈥�
