Presenting Beyond Academia is designed to help graduate students as they think about talking about their research with people outside of academia. Reshaping content based on an exploration of audience and purpose as well as considerations of body language, voice and attitude will all be discussed.ÌýSpecial thanks to Interac Corp. for sponsoring this workshop.

Learning Outcomes:

• Content: Learn strategies to strategically hone both the content for purpose and audience as well as the trajectory for effective scaffolding.

• Engagement: Learn strategies to increase engagement, with specific emphasis on how these strategies are different for online vs. in person presentations.

• Attitude: Develop an appreciation for how attitude impacts both voice and body language (key measures impacting judgements of credibility, enthusiasm, and authenticity).

Facilitator Bio:

Dr. Andrew Churchill obtained his doctorate in education from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ University in 2011 after receiving his M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 2002. For the last 10 years he has been working with both academics and business professionals in classes, seminars, professional workshops, and through independent contract work to help them hone their communication skills. His presentation coaching work focuses on refining content, voice, body language and visuals in order to increase engagement and comprehension. His workshops consistently receive excellent reviews from participants, and his excellence in teaching has earned him recognition with a Distinguished Teaching Award from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ University.
