Peer Career Discovery Groups (Online): Career Exploration for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the life sciencesÌý

The Desjardins Centre for Advanced Training (DCAT) of the RI-MUHC and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Career Planning Service (CaPs)ÌýpresentÌý6Ìýweb conferencesÌýforÌýgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the life and health sciences. You will:Ìý

  • Learn how toÌýidentify careers that suit youÌý
  • Plan for your careerÌý
  • Effectively search  for jobs Ìý
  • Develop and fortify your academic CV Ìý
  • Build your networking skills, meet fellow trainees and much more!Ìý

This program will help you prepare for your career through Ìý6Ìýfree web conferences and  through independent research and networking with  PCDG  participants.Ìý

The Schedule of Topics (we recommend that you join all sessions but itÌýis not mandatory): Ìý

Topic 1 (Tuesday, September 22nd, 9 – 10:30am): Introduction to the remote version of PCDG and Introduction to Career ExplorationÌý

Topic 2 (Tuesday, SeptemberÌý29th, 9 – 10:30am): Planning your career using design thinkingÌý

Topic 3 (Tuesday,ÌýOctoberÌý6th, 9 – 10:30am): Discovering your career optionsÌý

Topic 4 (Tuesday,ÌýOctober 13th, 9 – 10:30am): Effectively digging deeper into your career matchesÌý

Topic 5 (Tuesday,ÌýOctober 20th, 9 – 10:30am): An introduction to non-academic CVsÌý

Topic 6Ìý(Tuesday,ÌýOctober 27th, 9 – 10:30am): MockÌýjobÌýinterviewsÌý

Each web conference will consist of three parts:Ìý

Part 1: Introduction to the topic (10-15 minutes)Ìý

Part 2: Breakout groups with peers (20 - 25 minutes)Ìý

Part 3: Group Discussion, Assignment of exercises at home, and Question period (10 - 15 minutes)Ìý

Participants will also receive the PCDG workbook. Ìý
