Scope of work:

This project involves replacing the fire curtain between the McCall MacBain Arts and Leacock buildings and reintegrating the installation into the building's fire alarm panel. The fire curtain is on the ground floor level of the building, immediately at the top of a short staircase and ramp (as shown in the plan above).

Impact & mitigation:

Access:

During construction, the corridor linking the Arts and Leacock buildings will be closed. The accessibility ramp adjacent to the site will also be blocked. Universal access to the Arts and Leacock buildings during the works will be rerouted as shown in the map below.

  • Classroom W20 will not be accessible.
  • Access to the emergency exit and the elevator in the Arts Building will be maintained at all times.

Safety considerations:

The project includes demolition work that will disrupt materials containing silica, lead, and asbestos. All applicable safety protocols will be put in place. The safety protocols include dust-containment methods such as setting up enclosures to isolate the work area and putting it under negative pressure, as well as using specialized vacuuming equipment. It will also include cleaning and regular inspections.
