Yet the psychological processe s underlying male and female sponsors’ goals\, priorities\, and strategies for activating resources in their networks for protégés are not well unde rstood. We conduct four studies to examine male and female sponsors’ goals and the resulting impact on their approach to activating resources in the ir social network. Studies 1a-b provide converging\, initial evidence that men approach sponsorship with less complexity than women\, by setting few er goals that focus more on benefiting themselves. Study 2 provides additi onal evidence: male sponsors are more likely than female sponsors to perce ive sponsorship as an opportunity to benefit themselves while female spons ors perceive sponsorship as an opportunity to benefit their protégés. Stud y 3 experimentally links the differences in goal pursuit to sponsors’ soci al network strategies: when asked to balance protégé-centric and sponsor-c entric goals\, women cognitively activate networks higher in closure\, but men activate sparse networks regardless of their goals. The implications of these network activation configurations for understanding the sponsorsh ip process are discussed.\n DTSTART:20250328T143000Z DTEND:20250328T160000Z SUMMARY:Organizational Behavior Area Virtual Research Seminar Series: Eliza beth Campbell URL:/desautels/channels/event/organizational-behavior- area-virtual-research-seminar-series-elizabeth-campbell-364133 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
