What if economists applied their own theories 鈥 to themselves?

George Akerlof鈥檚 and Robert Shiller鈥檚 (Nobels in economics) new book, titled Phishing for Phools: The Economics of Manipulation and Deception declares on its first page that people 鈥渄o not do what is really good for them; they do not choose what they really want.鈥 It appears that a main preoccupation of economists 鈥 the self declared 鈥渂ehavioral economists鈥 prominent among them 鈥 is to show how dumb people are as consumers and in assessing risks.
