Both the聽information about聽fracking and the聽know-how abouthow best to employ聽it is available.Should they choose聽to do so, regulators聽can easily and cost effectively聽adopt聽disclosure practices聽that will benefit聽Canadians and their聽communities.

Hydraulic fracturing (鈥渇racking鈥�)聽is a technology employed聽in the production of oil聽and gas from unconventional聽shale formations. The technology聽has become ubiquitous, with聽tens of thousands of fracking聽wells drilled worldwide over the聽past decade. Fracking often takes聽place in relatively populated areas,聽thus posing an array of risks聽to public health such as water聽contamination and induced seismicity.聽In addition to inspecting聽and monitoring these risks, regulators聽now face the challenge of聽keeping the public well-informed聽about their extent.
