鈥淐onfronting Finitude: Socioeconomic Implications of COVID-19 and Climate Change on University Students and Recent Graduates in Canada鈥�
Professor Holmgren's research is grounded in two assumptions: (1) anxiety is an economic driver and (2) it ought not to be. The project takes a narratological approach to assessing how major contemporary phenomena that relate to human finitude鈥攅specially COVID-19 and Climate Change鈥攊mpact the economic lives of university students and recent graduates. Involving five major research institutions in Canada, the project will assess how students鈥� and recent graduates鈥� professional and consumption-related choices are affected by these phenomena over a 5- to 10-year period. The goals of the project are to:
(1) better understand how contemporary Western ideology, products, and services exacerbate anxieties relating to time and finitude and contribute to the increase of anxiety-as-disability.
(2) propose policies that address the deleterious effects of products and services that induce and then capitalize on anxieties relating to finitude.
