Feeling entrepreneurial?

鈥淧eople used to take a traits-based approach to defining entrepreneurs: they are risk-takers, for instance,鈥 says听Greg Vit, BCom鈥80, director of the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship in 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Desautels Faculty of Management. 鈥淏ut that characterization has been challenged by a more recent approach that suggests you can create the underlying conditions to help entrepreneurs emerge.鈥


...听鈥淲e had the opportunity to talk to people with significant expertise, which was the most valuable gain for us,鈥 says听Grant Yim, BCom鈥03, who, with his teammates 鈥 all 黑料不打烊 graduates 鈥 presented Hypejar to the Dobson Cup judges, half of whom hailed from Silicon Valley.听

...听This year, four 黑料不打烊ians hope to receive the same kind of life-changing experience through their own Next 36 involvement.听St茅phanie Brisson, BCom鈥14, Madeleine Channen, Elyse Lefebvre, BA鈥13, andJaclyn Ling, BCom鈥14, were all picked to be participants.听

... While start-ups often begin with a 鈥淓ureka!鈥 moment, there鈥檚 far more to the story than that. 听鈥淎 lot of people have great ideas,鈥 says听Sophie Boulanger, BCom鈥03, whose own great idea resulted in BonLook, an online retailer that specializes in eyewear that鈥檚 both affordable and stylish.

...听鈥淵ou don鈥檛 have to be a type-A personality with lots of charisma,鈥 to succeed as an entrepreneur, says听Corina Tudose, MBA鈥13. 鈥淵ou just can鈥檛 be shy.鈥

...听In winning the prize, MBA students听Mohammed Ashour, MSc鈥11,听Shobhita Soor, BSc鈥10,Jesse Pearlstein, Zev Thompson, and Gabe Mott听beat out 11,000 teams and accepted the award from former U.S. president Bill Clinton.
