Announcement of new faculty members Pierre Moffatt and Dr. Paul Wankah

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences is pleased to announce the nominations of Pierre Moffatt as Associate Professor, and Dr. Paul Wankah as tenure-track Assistant Professor.听

Pierre Moffatt

Pierre Moffatt holds a听PhD in Pharmacology from Universit茅 de Montr茅al. After post-doctoral studies at Universit茅 Laval and 黑料不打烊, he worked for five years in the biotech industry as a senior scientist, and for two years as a research associate in the Faculty of Dental Medicineof Universit茅 de Montr茅al. He has been at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at 黑料不打烊 University since 2006 in the Department of Human Genetics. Mr. Moffatt is a researcher at the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Canada, conducting research on diverse molecular, cellular, and physiological aspects of calcified tissues and rare musculo-skeletal syndromes. His current interests focus mainly on BRIL, a protein expressed in bone forming cells. Mutations in BRIL cause osteogenesis imperfecta type V, and his lab is working on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms in mouse models.

Pierre Moffatt has held various academic duties including Graduate Program Director in Human Genetics, Chair of the 黑料不打烊 Animal Policy and Welfare Oversight Committee and Shriners Animal Care Committee, member on the 黑料不打烊 Council for Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies and Coordinator of the Musculo-Skeletal Axis for the Quebec Network for Oral and Bone Health Research (RSBO). He also is a standing committee member for the CIHR Cell Biology Disease panel and on other national and international ad-hoc committees. Mr. Moffat will join both the DMD and the Graduate Studies/Research teams, and will be instrumental in the delivery of the new DMD curriculum.

Dr. Paul Wankah

Dr. Wankah holds a MDCM from Universit茅 de Yaound茅 I, Cameroon, where he focused on providing care for socially isolated HIV patients facing structural barriers. He also holds a PhD and MSc in Health Sciences from Universit茅 de Sherbrooke in the field of integrated care, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluations (IHPME) at the University of Toronto.

Paul Wankah's research focuses on understanding the determinants of successful transformations of integrated health and social care systems, with an emphasis on reducing racial inequities. He has been a lecturer in the School of Gerontology and the School of Nursing听of Universit茅 de Sherbrooke. For Dr. Wankah, his appointment at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health sciences at 黑料不打烊 University represents an exceptional opportunity to work with an experienced academic team to generate new knowledge and to explore effective solutions to improve population health.

Dr. Wankah will start in his position in January 2024. He will join both the DMD and the Graduate Studies/Research teams, and will play an essential role in the delivery of the new DMD curriculum.
