What does The Office of the Dean of Students do?

The Office of the Dean of Students’ principles areÌýlistening, guiding, supporting, facilitatingÌýandÌýcollaborating. But you may be wondering –ÌýwhatÌýdo we actuallyÌýdo?

At our foundation, we're an academic office that also deals with some non-academic issues. Our staff are trained in student affairs, and when we meet with students, we start by listening: we’ll figure out where you're at andÌýwhatÌýyou need. Then, we’ll let you know how we can help—though we aren’t medical professionals or trained counsellors, we can point you toward resources and propose solutions. And, while we can’t act as your advocate or lawyer individually, we do advocate for the wellbeing of the student body as a whole.

It’s also important to know that we don’t have authority over programming within a Faculty. Most academic decisions, like re-grading policies, admissions, late withdrawal requests, or deferred exams, rest with the Faculties, and are best addressed with your Faculty advisor.ÌýWe are ultimately here to provide non-judgmental guidance, support, and informed referrals to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students. Stay tuned for more info about our current projects!
