We Live to Move

My office and research lab are at the Macdonald campus. For me, that is a 40-minute drive each way (100% electric). Since I haven’t been to my office since March, I decided to put that time towards exercise and, like many people, bought a bike. So far, I’ve clocked up 2,200 km since June. Staying physically active is especially important right now since it helps so much with mental health, and I find cycling is very meditative. As the weather makes it more difficult to spend time outdoors, now is an excellent time to explore the possibilities of exercising indoors safely.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Athletics has producedÌý, an online hub featuring a number of helpful resources geared toward making physical activity accessible during this challenging period. On the website you’ll find a large and growing collection of guided workout videos covering specific muscle groups, high-intensity interval training, stretching routines, self-massaging techniques, and more. The site also hosts online class schedules (stay tuned for the Winter ‘21 schedule in the new year), as well as information about ongoing drop-in activities, editorial content from trainers and physiotherapists, links to additional resources, and information about Athletics’ COVID-19 policies.

Everyone has a different relationship to exercise, and it’s important to check in with yourself and see if adding more physical activity to your routine is a realistic choice for you right now. If you feel that breaking a sweat or giving your body a stretch is what you need,ÌýÌýis a great place to start.
