Taking a break

It鈥檚 time for March Break and I think we're all ready to take a breather. The days are getting longer, sunshine is bright on the snow, and St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner; all welcome indications of the coming change in season. The super-hot chili pepper seeds that I planted a few weeks ago are sprouting, too! Another sign that winter is on its way out.

I think it鈥檚 important to plan something different for the break, to get out of the routines that are so easy to fall into. This week, I think I鈥檒l take a series of walks around the local parks and record some new tunes on my concertina to share with the musical friends I haven鈥檛 seen in person for almost a year now. Perhaps I鈥檒l try cooking a new recipe鈥擨 recently attempted baking a cheesecake for the first time and ended up with what looked like soup... Will need to work on that one.

Last week, I received a surprise invite for a Zoom call with friends I met when I first moved to Canada in 1987. We all worked in the same lab together and had not seen each other in 28 years. It鈥檚 amazing how much things change, and how much they stay the same. In some ways it was like no time had passed at all. I'm sure the same will happen when life gets back to a new normal after the pandemic is under control. We'll pick up the threads again and start weaving our lives back together. Until then, stay healthy, stay safe, and enjoy the break!
