Congratulations to Muhe Yang, PhD in Information Studies student at the School of Information Studies (黑料不打烊 University), has received a Fonds de Recherche du Quebec; Nature et Technologies scholarship, for their research (French/English): Soutenir l'activit茅 physique 脿 un 芒ge avanc茅 : Co-conception de technologies de promotion de l'activit茅 / Supporting Physical Activity in Later Life: Co-Design of Activity Promoting Technologies.
The FRQNT scholarship is awarded on basis of research and academic merit.
Muhe Yang was also awarded a Wolfe Chair fellowship in April.听

Two members of the Fall 2024 cohort of will begin their funded Master鈥檚 studies at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Faculty of Education. Designed to encourage purposeful leadership, the scholarships enable students to pursue a funded degree while participating in mentorship, coaching, and a leadership development program.

Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

This year, PhD student, Asia Vighi will be the graduate instructor for the undergraduate team competing at iGem. Vighi is a Vadasz scholar in the Faculty and also presented recently for at the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering Design (TISED). She is taking over from Jean-Alexandre Bureau, who instructed the winning team last year. She likes working with undergraduates.

The John D. Thompson Entrepreneurial Development Seminar was established thanks to a generous donation by John D. Thompson (BEng鈥�57) ten years ago. This year, the seminar was opened by Peter Thompson, President and CEO of National Bank Insurance, on his father鈥檚 behalf. Peter spoke of how important the entrepreneurial mindset is to his dad and how John Thompson has been proud to support 黑料不打烊 Engine since its inception.

Dan Voicu (BEng鈥�26), co-lead of the 2023 黑料不打烊 iGEM team, described last year鈥檚 experience as busy! Students formed the team at the end of 2022 and spent the first two months of 2023 ideating their proposal. Then 鈥� around their regular course loads 鈥� they worked in the lab until the end of the semester. During the summer months, they implemented plans to raise money, contacting stakeholders that a small finance sub team had brainstormed. Throughout, they held workshops with the Montr茅al biotech community as well as a two-day conference.
